Magicka is hilarious. The humor (though in a completely unintelligible spoken language) strikes me in a way that I can't quite identify. The spells are fun to figure out, and hard as heck to master, giving a reward for learning each one. There's no real "quick casting" to be done, here. It's all about learning the combinations and typing them out quickly. Pure skill. (Though it's quite easy to "cheat" by using AHK or similar.)

I'm around three chapters in after a good two-hour play session (with some restarts for a few things) and four deaths in I realize that this game has every bit the difficulty and the charm of the original. Even the exit confirmation is similar to the original. (HEROES to keep playing, and WIMPS to exit.) The weapons are responsive and decently balanced, the AI works decently together and makes it decently challenging on medium, and the game rewards the player for taking the path less traveled. (With weapon upgrades, health upgrades, and all sorts of stuff. This game is GORY. In the best POSSIBLE way. Heads get removed from shoulders with well-placed shots, and granny blows a dude's head off with a shotgun. All in all, a great damn game.

This game is awesome. The perfect mesh of cartoony and dark Diablo-esque atmosphere. The addition of Co-op play makes it even better (and consequently more like the Diablo series), but without sacrificing the awesome artstyle and hilarious names and flavortexts. 9.5/10, with a perfect score if they'd made a way to automagically copy saves to the modsave folder.
