Introduction
Embark on a mysterious adventure as Adam Wolfe, a renowned supernatural investigator, as you find hidden objects to help you in your investigative pursuits.

Story
Adam Wolfe is a highly immersive, story-driven episodic series, with a different case in each chapter; though there is an underlying backstory which progresses throughout the series. You play as Adam Wolfe, a former police officer turned paranormal investigator, preoccupied with the disappearance of his younger sister, Allie. As a new case is solved, more clues arise concerning the disappearance, and along with it, more questions. The story is easy to follow, despite the many interconnecting storylines and many unexpected twists.
**Story outline below. If you want the whole storyline to remain a mystery, skip the rest of this section.**
The story begins with what is seemingly an arsonist running around the city causing havoc. Realising that this is more than just a simple case of a mad pyromaniac, the police force assign Adam Wolfe to the job, in hopes he can solve the mystery. As Adam follows the clues, he realises this is far more than he had bargained for. Small details display resemblances with the information he already has regarding his sister’s disappearance, and thus the search continues, taking him to dangerous and infernal places.
The second chapter involves a mysterious magical box, it’s peculiar contents taking Adam on a spine-chilling discovery of demonic possession, secret societies and ancient cults.
The third chapter follows the story of a troubled painter, as Adam finds more and more clues that connect the cases with his sister’s disappearance before finally, the fourth chapter sheds some light on how it’s all connected.

Gameplay
From each chapter, you are able to choose whether you would like a tutorial, and to what degree you would like help with; full, special features only or no tutorial. I found this to be very helpful in the first chapter as someone not particularly well-versed in the genre, and liked the in-between option that is also available. There is also a hints system, which I will explain in more detail in the next section of my review.
The game boasts a very useful modern addition; the smartphone. Via the phone you are able to fast travel using the map function, use GPS when traveling in vehicles, check the objectives you have completed and are currently working towards, call and send images to contacts and a ‘?’ tab which contains case-specific information (such as things you have learned from clues or speaking to others). There are several handy and impressive features in the ‘’loadout’’ section: intense focus, a gun and a mysterious watch with special abilities. Intense focus is one of my favourite additions, as it allows you to find important clues and piece them together yourself.
Parts of the story are played out in an interactive comic strip style, often showing combat, conversations and other segments key to the story. There are many different mini-games throughout the chapters packing a refreshing challenge without being repetitive or boring, the puzzles seemingly advancing in difficulty as the game progresses.

Difficulty & Challenge
Adam Wolfe has extensive options in terms of difficulty to cater to both experienced and new players. There are 4 difficulty options: easy, medium, hard and even a custom difficulty where it enables you to configure the difficulty options to suit your preferences and playstyle. These difficulty options enable (or disable) the use of hints, determine hint recharge rate, enable (or disable) indications of important places of interest and even have a penalty for rapidly clicking in hidden object puzzles (hard difficulty).
The hint system really adds to the flexibility of challenge; for example, the easy difficulty enables you to pretty much use as many hints as you wish (though there is still a short cooldown), whereas the hard option disables the use of them entirely.

Graphics & Art
Mad Head Games were spot on with the artwork in Adam Wolfe. The imagery captures each scene perfectly, portraying a realistic representation of all the destinations and characters. With so many locations within the game (there are 53 across the 4 chapters), it’s impressive that the attention to detail is there throughout every scene.

Soundtrack & Audio
First of all, and one of my immediate thoughts upon playing this game, is the voice acting is very well done, specifically that of Adam Wolfe. One issue I have found with playing narrative-based games is that the voice acting can come across as rather dull and forced. Adam Wolfe is far from that, with the tremendously well-written script merging perfectly with the voice acting to create a truly immersive experience. The ambient soundtrack really builds on that immersion, helping to set the scene of mystery and trepidation so vividly.

Replay Value
I don’t find that there is much replay value in narrative-based games, especially those of the mystery genre. Given Adam Wolfe is highly dependant on the constant build-up of clues, once you’ve finished the storyline I doubt a second playthrough would have the same immersion.

Achievements
All the achievements can be obtained simply by playing through all the chapters (if you do not use the hint function for any of the hidden object puzzles).

Overall Verdict
Adam Wolfe is a captivating mystery adventure with a large amount of varying puzzles ensuring that the game never gets stale, repetitive or boring. The story is incredibly immersive and highly addictive (I pretty much binge-played through the whole thing as it had me wanting answers), and one that will stick with me for a while. The fact that it has difficulty options to cater to any kind of player makes it a perfect choice for anyone interested in the mystery genre.

Overall Score: 9/10
