*Review still valid, but since writing heard of the standalone "Protectors" mod, updates the game to support HD res etc, prob safer bet than trying to get a decade plus version of the game to run on a modern PC*

Played way more than 3 hours, had this when I was a kid eons ago.

Great game, prob need look into mods tho to get it running on a modern PC(I'm just assuming, haven't tried in a while but had issues last I did)

If you're running on a "potato" though, and looking for a solid old RTS and worried about the "offbrand" series might not be able to find a huge amount of info about...well, then you've come to the right place.

Before we had stuff like Warhammer Total War, there was this.

Gameplay wise it is a conventional RTS, no weird ish', tons of diff factions(all have unique units and mechanics), can level up your commanders, equip items etc, just all around an awesome game can spend hours on.

Even back in the day was a bit of an adjustment factor to figure out mechanics etc (coming off stuff like Warcraft 3 with much more simple interface and mechanics) but once I figured this game out, I couldn't put it down for a couple years after wards.

I've played this game for A LOT more than 65 hours, just my steam numbers on this version. Most my game time comes from the og box copy I bought back when we still bought box copies of games.
I've even had a review up for this game on Youtube since like 2007 iirc? Anyways.

It is a solid game, if you have never tried it and are looking for a good sci fy RTS, look no further. You've found it.

Oh and tons of cool mods for it, plus despite making a second one, the devs are still supporting the first(as of writing this they just released a new patch.)

Good update to an older classic shooter.
Remastered doesn't retcon or change anything to do with the game's plot, just provides modern graphics, proper 2/4k res support and few quality of life upgrades. Still can't sprint, still need swap between plasmids and weapons, ie, same game, better graphics. Nothing more or less, which imho, is good. Hate when they butcher a game by retconning and remaking entire sections etc.

As to the crashes people allegedly have, gonna be honest I didn't have ONE crash or bug playing through the entire game(check my cheeve's) with a modern rig. Ran absolutely fine and was a blast to play just like the original.

All in all, solid fun playing it, great value for the bundle that includes it all and yeah, had no technical issues playing it.

Edit: I had a problem, and they're trying to address it. Logged into today to see fourth patch in short period of time solely addressing bugs etc. Criticism is how people improve, but so is giving credit where it is due when people actually do start to improve.

DLC is great, seriously, AMAZING DLC all in all, well worth the price, and they really did chorfs justice...but overall support for base game has been awful as of date I'm writing this.

We need bug patches, fixes for things like broken quests(many of which have been outstanding and/or said fixed and werent, devs have even publicly admitted this, said do better, so here's h/coping) performance fixes etc, so as already have my money on it, giving this a thumbs down as some kind of protest. Futile as may be.

And go ahead clown me for saying something that could benefit us all if devs ever listened, always happy for the points, is some cool profile swag in that shop after all.

If you're looking for an actual racing sim/career progression kind of game like good old Gran Turismo games, look elsewhere.
This is some kind of cali bro lifestyle simulator or something, not entirely sure but I refunded after 23 minutes.
