Where to start with this title? Firstly I'll get it out of the way and say it's a good game, no question. It's far from perfect but if you like civilization then you will like this title.

I fear the single downfall of this game lies in the development. It's as if Firaxis did not have a large enough budget to fully complete this game to make it unique. There are a couple things that bother me with the game so far, the voice acting and it's oh-so-similar CIV 5 likeness. Maybe this was my own fault coming in to this game expecting something COMPLETELY different or something similar to Alpha Centauri. Not that any of these reasons are terrible but I think I worked it up in my head that this game was going to be the perfect blend of Alpha Centauri And Civ 5. It's not, it's good but far from a breakout series.

The sole thing I would say about the voice acting is that it needs more work. Each civ does have a unique voice actor but when wonders are complete or you're read a definition you get the voice actor who also voices the Kavithan Protectorate. Should this bother me? I think I was just spoiled with Civ 4 and Civ 5.

On to the good stuff - There were a few things I really liked almost immediately after starting. The futuristic theme lends more capabilities and options for the familiar civ player to start with. I love planetfall, this is basically the enactment of your ship touching down and establishing your first colony on the planet you choose. Before this you are allowed to tweak how you start and what starting benefits your sponsor and civilization get. These options range from scientific, cultural to militaristic benefits to help you mould your civ before you start planetfall, Pretty cool stuff.

The addition to upgrading your military was a very nice change. Depending on how you steer your civilization this can define what type of militaristic units you get. The 3 directions you can split in to are determined by how you research your technologies. Researching technologies can give you points towards an affinity which can affect your military in very unique ways. This is in addition to veterancy which was not removed but instead improved on.

Overall I would say this is a great title. I have been playing it since release and don't foresee stopping any time soon.

Go out and get it!

I would say steam sale worthy. As I'm more anxious I would buy it before GOTY, I think it's worth a sale purchase.

So... Steam sale and not a day one buy. wait for some patches and get the game of the year edition.
