The flight model in the Current Il2 is a slight improvement but defiantly different. The campaign has quite a bit of content once you progress along and open up a few more mission types and available planes to fly. As well the planes in the sky vary more.
You get what you pay for in regards to Both Il2 games. The current one is a bit better but costs more.
FSX is a scam in that sense that you are required to pay for such outdated flight physics. Everything going remotely into stalling territory and your plane goes ape.
I recently got a couple of dlc on sale and I love the fokker DVII, but the same gripe with the paying model remains because I have to get another DLC pack so I can modify its cockpit. That's absurd. I'm surprised they don't sell the skins, too.
By this logic - FSX, IL2 and DCS are all scams. Overpriced DLC? A plane is $5 each, and $8 with cockpit gimmicks on their website. The SPAD, and the Albatross D5a are the best planes in the game - and it's given to you.
