Another World is a triumph of style and design from a time when games were unapologetically difficult but rewarded the player for perseverance. The next screen always holds a surprise and challenge to be overcome which required a bit of logic, planning, quick reflexes and at times lateral thinking to overcome.

There’s a life lesson in that I reckon.

Compulsive, brutal, mesmerising and disturbing; razor sharp 8-bit visuals infuse with a thumping soundtrack both defining the pace and atmosphere in an almost sickeningly glorified presentation of ultra-violence. For all of its dark subject matter the frantic learning cycle of repeated player deaths and satisfying tactical combat makes Hotline Miami a stunningly engaging top-down shooter. Uniquely essential but not for the faint of heart.

Beautifully fasinating. Despite it's linear 'gameplay' free form it's a captivating and effecting experience that remained with me long after playing.

Short but sweet. Boss battles and QTE aside, this is Lara at her best: exploring amazing locations and solving puzzles.

Cyrostasis is an excellent horror shooter which despite some technical issues, delivers a chilling and captivating experience. Probably the most concise way of describing the game would be Doom meets System Shock, on an icebreaker. If you have any interest in either of these titles I'd give this a play.

While maybe not being as ambitious as the Penumbra series, by focusing on the story and atmosphere it makes for a more cohesive experience. One of the scariest games ever made and a must for adventure fans.

I'm a sucker for pretty isometric games so I'd normally give a word of caution if I like one. However, LCATGOFL (hahahaha) is rather good across the spectrum. The highlight is the central co-op play which is perfectly balanced between combat, puzzle solving, exploration and griefing. Dropping your partner into a pit of traps accidently or not remains highly amusing throughout as is beating the various challenge temples, bosses and level achievements.

Lara has made a seamless transition into a more arcade like title, well worth your time! Just make sure you have someone to play it with you, it's most certainly designed for two.
