'Slender' is just the name of the game.
How do I know this? Well, to start with, Marble Hornets began in 2009, having been inspired by the original Slender Man images, created by Eric Knudsen. Slender and its many ripoffs, fan-made sequels and spinoffs, and its sequel, came about in 2012 onward.
You forgot the part where you discuss the Slender Man Mythos, a collection of 500+ stories featuring Tall, Thin and Faceless, most of which have their own fanbases and can be found archived or being discussed on the Unfiction Forums, a website dedicated to alternate reality games and the primary host of the aforementioned Mythos, by the way.
So on, so forth. I just wanted to point out a variety of things you missed. Calling Slender Man "Slender" can start full-on flamewars in some places.
Also, if you don't think Slender Man himself can be scary... watch the series 'Tribe Twelve.' He's much, much scarier then you think.
