Steam Guard - 15 day wait to trade
I understand the reasoning for the security measure, but there has to be a better way to enable trading then waiting 15 days.

If the Summer Sale is the big push to entice user's to spend and trade and buy and sell, and I'm only now enabling steam guard so I can participate, by the time I can, the sale is over.

Is there a way to bypass this or can I just vent and add a suggestion to have another form of security in place (like an authenticator in the mobile app) or something to quicken the process?

Thoughts?

You say this like they snuck it up on your without fair warning to turn the Steam Guard on.. as if that is the normal usage (off). But the normal usage is on. I've never turned mine off, or had to. You are only "just now enabling it so you can participate". Like that wasn't fair to you.

But the default for it is on. It defaulted on. It shoudln't be off unless you turned it off.

I always wonder what people are talking about when they say that they "accidentally" turned it off. How do you do that? What reason made you turn it off at all? It defaults to on. I've never had a circumstance where I wanted to turn it off, or had any reason to think turning it off would do anything for me.

Why do I suspect this has something to do with hacking or cheating, and turning it off while doing so? I can't imagine why else you'd turn it off. In years of Steam gaming, over hundreds of games, it's never been an issue of consideration or problem at all. I leave it on. Never had a problem.

Thanks for the helpful response Whip.

Not that it's any of your business, but in my line of work I rotate which PC's I use at work on a frequent basis and the hassle of having to authenticate my PC constantly made me turn it off.

Not sure where your getting this "accidentally" business, but I'd prefer it if you can keep your less then helpful outlook on this situation to yourself.

Thanks.

It seems they're no bypass... i'm lucky, i saw the group "steam trading cards" 15 days ago, and i discovered the market place in the same time...
I think Valve has not enough communicate about this new feature, so many people may have your problem....:gordon:

I desactivated steam guard since they patch steam client with it, i play on steam with my desktop, laptop, and on other PC in my family (not at work i'm not payed for that) and if i remember well, at the beginning it was impossible to allow the access on differents PC.
This security system is still perfectible : what about people who don't have static IP...

Just to give more insight as to why it is unreasonable to mandate steamguard, I deactivated it because I rotate PC's frequently, and on one such occasion it took no less than SEVEN hours for steam to send me the email with the activation code, a period during which I was unable to access my library. So there certainly are legitimate reasons to deactivate.

you're right, one more reason.

I have activated steam client-the same account on two PC. Only in first time they send email with code. From then they don't ask me for any code.

yes but it's a recent feature of steamguard, at the beginning you must check your mail since you use another PC

What really makes this confusing for me is that I have plenty of valuable games ( more valuable then TF2 items and cards anyway ) and I can send them as "gifts". These don't require Steam Guard to be activated but moving a $0.30 card does?

Gah!

Totally agree.. Worst part is that I couldnt even figure this out without guessing.. It says clearly I need guard on to trade, when I mouse over "sell" but I could not figure out for the life of me how I was to trade cards.. and I need to hit lvl 5 to get my voting cards :(

i have this problem and i think i lose this summer event = (, it wouldnt be convenient waiting 15 or 30 days, maybe 2 or 3 is alright
cruinne 2013 年 7 月 16 日 上午 9:21
Just wanted to voice my frustration also. I turned off Steam Guard early in because a) I was always switching between two computers, and I travel frequently so my IP address is regularly different and b) it sometimes took (what seemed like) forever to get that email so I could log in and use my account/access my library/make a purchase.

So, I have gifted games to people before with no problems whatsoever. Today I went to trade a couple extra summer sale cards and no! Can't do that! Send off a $40 game, np, but exchange trading cards? Noooo - wait 15 days. You know, until the event is over. It seems an unnecessary and annoying hurdle to put in a person's path.

This is the most ridiculous restriction I've ever heard of. Three years, thousands of dollars and numerous game trades. Never had a warning, complaint or ban and I can't even trade cards let alone sell them.
