Do you happen to know a console command that enables controller hud? I would like to test that.
To update to version 8.0, you just have to update hudlayout.res -> HudTeamGoalTournament
About the installation: I would put the fix in its own folder in custom folder instead of overriding files in toonhud folder. You only have to name the folder to something that comes after "toonhud" in alphabet. custom/toonhud_controller is ok for example. :)
Nope. Though the SC HUD is automatically applied when the game detects the Steam Controller, wired or not. 360 and SC HUDs are kinda different from each other.
I don't get it.
It only overrides the files in bold found in above since the files not in bold are not found within ToonHUD itself. I thought its best if it acts like an addon or something, I don't see much changes in overriding.
One thing I'm a bit worried about is the big size of the Pip-boy buttons material file. 1mb is a lot when the whole hud is only 7mb. :D
Clientscheme says
Also it's very rare that someone uses Steam controller and Pip-boy. So I think I have to drop that out.
But unfortunately, one of TF2's updates made it quite broken in terms of menus and in-game pop ups. They were switched right after you do something other than going back, and importing/exporting configs. It will reduce users of using the SC (like me) unless if you lots of tinkering.
Then I solved it:
I was inside Big Picture, roaming around the settings, and I made sure that the setting for putting Steam in front and launching Big Picture using the "guide/xbox/how do you call it" button of the joypad was disabled. Other than the "launch in big picture mode" as for some reason after updating in this mode it got ticked on.
I then closed Big Picture and restarted Steam. No more issues so far.
Also I found out in the list of commands by Valve this one: cl_ask_bigpicture_controller_opt_out 0. I don't know what's the correct value to fix this issue or if it does affect this issue at all, but it may be worth a try for anybody having problems with the HUD breaking and owning ANY joypad, not just the Steam controller.
You can also look up for Big Picture related commands in TF2 here https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/List_of_TF2_console_commands_and_variables
Said all of this, I would change the title of this thread in "Read this if your HUD is broken and you own a joypad/controller" or something generic like that. Reading here was the last thing I'd ever thought.
3h after edit: This is the menu, the checked box should be unchecked http://imgur.com/dZ4ziPt
This is not my screenshot, I found it online, but it's the same thing, and at least it's in english instead of forcing me to translate my screen lol
