no. just no.

There are a handful of trolls who just want to hate on Linux for no reason other than to troll.
psymin Apr 2, 2016 @ 5:55pm
My stance is to just ignore them.

Well, haters gonna hate.

They are just jealous because we don't have to put up with BSoDs.

People can be wrong without being paid for! If the posts are unpleasant or abusive, feel free to report the post, otherwise I would encourage everyone to ignore users like that.

Report the posts as spam, getting involved in discussions with these people can make threads go gnarly and then it does make us look worse as a whole :\

I simply state the facts, and see if they go gnarly, discrediting themselves. If not I ignore them.

I am even very sympathetic to game developers stating that sometimes a Linux port is exceptionally easy, and sometimes it isn't.

Often the choice is made by the finance division not the case, and they clearly aren't qualified to make the choice beyond saying exactly how much time and money they will devote to find out if a Linux Port is easy.

In my book it's worth the roll of the dice to throw 100 manhours at it and see if it builds easy, or if you can find a contractor willing to work under a specified amount to maintain a Linux port. If that can be done, then you can throw some more resources it's way, otherwise make it a back-burner project to make sure costs don't get inflated by rush factors.

I understand indie game studios don't have a lot of money in the bank, and having fun backburner projects for their tech guys helps attract better tech guys anyway, and allows you to keep a better tech guy team on payroll to save on hiring and contract budgets when you need to make rush priorities on bugfixes elsewhere.

Most of the people began on MS platform. And there are these close minded folks who based their point of view on belief that Windows is the only functional OS where everything works because "everybody" use it and "everybody" say the same thing. It's obviously wrong but there's nothing you can do about it. In fact fighting them will only strengthen their resolution.
Whenever there's somebody running linux it undermines their point of view and they react aggressively(you might want to read about psychology topic of "cognitive dissonance" :))).

Just leave them be. Don't be like them, don't preach about linux and don't trashtalk anything...

If you spot some undecided people thinking about linux, just tell them - It's free and it's their choice! Because that's the spirit of free software.

Outside of the occasional BSoD joke (which even Windows users make) I don't trash talk Windows much.

I find it better to focus on the good points about Linux, like flexability and scalability.

About the only other snide remark about Windows I make is boasting when my system doesn't slow down doing two things at once.

Admins already considered removing (or mildly editing) the thread, and kept it *because* of the positive replies gathered in the early posts. Which kinda falls onto your message, people have different opinions, including different to your own. Linking to posts on Steam is not a reason to have a thread removed, and while it could be seen as encouraging harassment - that can be done with those links or not - each user has a post history and it is really easy to find the threads involved in this topic.
Beyond that, i’d love to encourage everyone that ends up here to consider not posting in threads with arguments such as over platform numbers, install base, etc. Be positive, show users and devs that we appreciate games that arrive here!
Without crediting them, refute their false claims about Linux with real facts. Don't respond to -_them_, don't name them, ignore their personal attacks, just talk about Linux. Turn their trolling into a public service announcement. If you must quote them (so your response about Linux makes sense), just use [] so they are not credited.

If it's at first dispell the myths. If they persist and resort to (which they will) ad-hom, ignore them.

I've never played CS:GO on anything other than Slackware, and never had to deal with Linux haters there, or in any other multiplayer server/game. That's also considering the amount of hate for Slackware is doubled ( Fact: false claims against Slack come from both Windows AND Linux).

My solution? Shoot them in the head. I'm here to play games, and there's nothing about my Linux desktop stopping me from putting a bullet right between your pixelated eyes.

Just my 2 cents I suppose. tbh, every time I frag someone who was shitposting against Linux:
ROTFLMAO :steammocking:
