HOW TO FIX MULTIPLAYER

This method will fix problems you are having with NWN2 multiplayer from Steam. Feel free to contribute. Thank you Skywing for your many contributions!

1 - You may need to copy your cd keys from your Steam library to the nwn2cdkey.ini file. If you do, go to your Neverwinter Nights 2 folder in your documents.Open the file named nwn2cdkey.ini with notepad. If there are no keys written, get your keys from your Steam Library by right-clicking Neverwinter Nights 2, and selecting View Game CD Key and copy the keys to the nwn2cdkey.ini file. Save it.

2 - *This is not a crucial step, although it does bypass the two minute wait each time you log into multiplayer. You will require administrator priveleges to edit, so open 'notepad' as an administrator and open the Hosts. This will bypass the account authentication and allow editting of the "Hosts" file.

In Win 7 (32bit) and 10 (64bit) it is located here: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.

Once you have opened the file through notepad (+admin), add these two lines of text at the end of what is there:

0.0.0.0 nw2master.bioware.com
0.0.0.0 nwn2.master.gamespy.com

Save the file.

3 - (REQUIRED) Download the client extension (version 1.0.0.28) here:
http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/other/nwn2-client-extension
and extract it to your game folder (...\STEAM\steamapps\common\Neverwinter Nights 2).

Once extracted, double-click hdlinstall.reg (only do this the first time installing).

Now start the game using the (newly extracted) NWLauncher.exe file. You may wish to create a short-cut to this file and place it on the desktop since the MP client services will not work if you start the game from Steam.

And there you have it. Start the game, click on multiplayer, and put whatever you want as name/password.

note: I installed CP2.6 today, and it somehow affected the NWNmain file, which upsets the client. It still works, but you have to first start NWLauncher and then start NWN2 from steam.

last client update or post at least on the linked client extension site was about a year ago. As far as I know, this still works, but I could be wrong. Make sure you've copied the cd keys, I think you get them on your GOG account. Here's a video on using the client: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15iGkEk1fqQ

You're right about the sarcasm, I was being pissy, although I did state on my first response to you to "(m)ake sure you've copied the cd keys, I think you get them on your GOG account". You could have just wrote your solution here instead of linking reddit; I really don't like that site. From your reddit link:

I tried it but got errors connecting to the games. The server browser worked ok. I guess I will jsut have to connect by manually entering the connection info from NWN List Scry
