I used the Amputater more when it still had the increased health regen set bonus with the crossbow until Valve splited the set. Now I rarely use it, I rely on my standard health regen ^^ (not using Blutsauger).
But with the Blutsauger it's a good combination like you already do.
The Amputator's increased health regeneration effect applies upon it being the active weapon, if you don't really use melee and use your primary more then you don't benefit from the bonus in reality.
The Solemn Vow is a direct upgrade from the standard bSaw. Allowing you to see enemy health, and letting you chose your battles more often. It's fairly nice with Medics who use primary more often.
bSaw is default. Hooray. Without seeing enemy health you might take bigger risks than if you had that Hippocrates Bust. It's a much more aggressive weapon.
uSaw rewards the gutsiest of Medics greatly with a less than advantageous spot in combat.
vSaw is meh.
And Amputator is good for running away, on fire or something. The taunt isn't too reliable though.
I use uSaw but only because I play by switching weapons every shot I take with the crossbow. Pretend I am going to close in the distance after shooting it, jump away, shoot him again and if he gets too close slap him with the saw.
