Help us translate Steam

I'm running (currently) Windows 7 build 7601.
I've found where I went wrong, however. I'd copied the TTF file into the folder from the C:\Windows\Fonts and attempted to reference that font in the configuration file when it wasn't needed. I thought I would have had to reference it in the custom fonts section due to it having multiple words in the name. (I was wrong on this) Setting the name to the system's font name ("font" "Glass Gauge") fixed it.
TL;DR: PEBKAC
Basically I just wanna know how those files work.
