Call of Duty: Dedicated Server Movement Petition
To Whom it May Concern:

This petition was created to make sure that the PC Community's voice is heard in regards to the topic of Dedicated Servers in the Call of Duty series. We feel that the approach used for Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 2 was misleading and did not provide the functionality that the PC Community asked for, requires and has grown accustomed to.

I, a member of the PC Community and signer of this petition, humbly request that either Black Ops 2 or the next version of Call of Duty, expected in November of 2013, includes true Dedicated Server functionality in line with the traditional idea of what the PC Community has always known Dedicated Server functionality to be.

Expected Dedicated Server functionality includes the following:

1.Servers are dedicated to running the game and are completely separate from the client. They are not listen servers, peer to peer client servers or otherwise. Players must launch a separate client to connect to these servers in order to play the game and configuration of these servers is performed via a website and/or remote console.

2.Dedicated Servers are rentable by the community through third-party server hosting companies such as Gameservers.com.

3.Dedicated Servers can be Ranked or Unranked.

4.Ranked Dedicated Servers will allow for a reasonable amount of configuration and will allow players to gain rank and retain statistical information based on their resulting gameplay on that Dedicated Server.

5.Unranked Dedicated Servers will allow for a larger amount of configuration, but will not allow players to gain rank and retain statistical information based on their resulting gameplay on that Dedicated Server.

6.All Dedicated Server types, Ranked and Unranked, will allow for reasonable configuration changes such as map rotation control, kick/ban abilities, rcon, etc. by the person or persons renting that individual Dedicated Server.

7.A server browser is included in the game to allow players to control which servers they connect to based on a series of filters (Server is not full, Server is not empty, game mode, ranked/unranked, etc.). This server browser will provide a listing of Ranked and Unranked servers.

8.The server browser will allow for players to see their pings in their preference of bars or traditional numbers based on their connection to the Dedicated Server.

9.The party system will be usable in conjunction with Dedicated Servers to allow players to create parties and play together as a team on these Dedicated Servers.

10.The match making system and/or some form of a Quick Match system, similar to games like Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter, will include community based Dedicated Ranked Servers.

Along with this functionality, we, the PC Community, humbly request that a contact from Activision, Treyarch and/or Infinity Ward, throughly communicate the details of what will be provided to the PC Community in way of Dedicated Servers in great detail prior to pre-order availability. We request that this contact provide us with Q&A to the questions listed below and that this contact be reasonably available for any additional questions that the PC Community may have.

1.Will Call of Duty have Dedicated Servers?

2.Will Call of Duty Dedicated Servers be Ranked and Unranked?

3.Will Call of Duty Dedicated Ranked and Unranked Servers be rentable by members of the PC Community?

4.Will Call of Duty Ranked Dedicated Servers allow for reasonable configuration such as map rotation, game mode, rcon, etc.?

5.Will Call of Duty Unranked Dedicated Servers allow for a high level of configuration such as map rotation, game mode, rcon, class configuration, etc. so that it may be easily used for competition?

6.Will a server browser be included in the game allowing players to control which servers they connect to, Ranked and Unranked?

7.Will Dedicated Servers work with a party system allowing friends to join Dedicated Servers as a team?

8.Will Dedicated Servers be included in the match-making system or a Quick Match system?

Thank you for your careful consideration.

Thanks Hendrix.

TownCryer, if you meant the link on thehonorsquad.com site, I've moved it here now. It wasn't my first choice, but it's just easier for everyone. When I find time soon, I'll post all those comments here and also put up the information on sales.

I would prefer if the servers went the old way like COD5 or COD4 and get steam out of my life.

I can deal with Steam since it does have it's benefits, although I wish it was optional, but certainly the dedicated servers make playing much better. I was just playing COD4 a ton the last couple days and it's so much fun! I really enjoyed it.

I don't have to wonder if I'm winning or losing based on my connection and there are "ZERO" hackers.

Starting to feel like Activision is just going to ignore this problem - we need to find a way to spoof a slow Internet connection, then at least we'd be on equal footing. as it stands now, this game is not worth playing at all, and i'll never spend another penny w/ Activision/Treyarch.

give us back control of our servers

"Starting to feel like Activision is just going to ignore this problem" - I think they want to, but I doubt they are. It's our job to make sure they can't ignore us. I'm sure they aren't happy with the way things have gone so far. The fact that they have Black Ops 2 on sale on Steam this early is telling.

This game, BOII doesnt have very long legs, it not going to hold ppls interest for any length of time. It really as foolish attempt at a shooter. No thought in playing the game, r&g, which is not very interesting for long.

Personally I tend to agree, but hopefully the next one will be better and we can make a difference.

we will be major hard pushed to change the way they have set there servers up simple because now there games are ported from console. There is many more console noobs than real skill pc players this is the issue. As an admin for many years i would not of ever changed the way the pc version was set up, we can no longer ban a hacker that is destroying a game. As we all know there is plenty of them on the new cod games because of the way the servers are setup.
I have refused to buy the game myself the last one i bought was codwaw after this games have been gifted to me or i have not got, The day they put the old server listing will be the day i buy a game from them.

I share your passion and fustration. And I hope with things like this petition and keeping up the conversation, they (the companies) will see if they can capture this kind of passion it will be realized in monies for them. It always come back to the pound, dollar, euro, etc. Which is not a bad thing. (edited adding the word "not" in the last sentence.....I needed a better proof reader)

I have not purchased since WaW and even that was a gift. If people would stop buying it, they might actually start listening to us. As long as they remain a number one seller without addressing any of our concerns, they are not going to listen.
