Finally, Steam Authenticator and Chat on Windows Mobile Phone
the official steam[www.microsoft.com] app is out!

it was made by the same developer that made the previously popular unofficial steam authenticator.

for historical purposes, i'm gonna leave previous txt of this post down.

Unofficial Steam Authenticator
[www.microsoft.com]

finally, a fully working steam guard mobile authenticator app for windows mobile/phone! :steamhappy:

supports:
  1. guard codes, for logging into account;
  2. steam trades, for approving trade holds;
  3. steam chat, but no notification support yet.

Chat for Steam
[www.microsoft.com]
if you need an optimized app for steam chat on ur windows mobile, this is the solution. :steamhappy:

full notification support requires a small in-app purchase, however, but it's nothing bank breaking.

support the petition!
meanwhile, if you care about Valve's unfair and disloyal behavior towards platform and company that made them rich, and want to ask them for support for Windows mobile app, sign the petition!

long live windows mobile! :steamhappy:
down with cheap bloatwared human imitations and expensive dumb blonds! :steammocking:

motives for advertising these apps
I'm not involved w/ development of any of these apps. I'm just ur regular Windows mobile phone fan boi; however, I can imagine helping out with the code for the open source app in some future, as I consider that quite a noble activity and I do believe such things should be supported - if I ever conclude I have enough free time for that too. :meatytears:

I'm advertising it cause I needed a choice and I know many ppl need a solution too. in rl I do technical support, and I'm used to helping ppl around, so this activity doesn't take too much of my time, doesn't annoy me, but rather makes me happy that I'm doing something for the community. :spacepony:

and I'm not paranoid that much to believe that some rather publicly exposed and known developer, with his private details all around the web, would ruin his whole reputation by making a malicious app. :player:

that being said, I can't offer much of a support for any of the apps, but if you have a question or a problem, ask, and I'll help as much as I can. :health:

Unofficial being the key-word here. You're on your own if anything goes wrong.

authenticator is open source and constantly updated[github.com], i doubt there's any possibility of malicious activity there without getting noticed. in any case, you don't have much of a choice, and any choice is good, if not obviously spoiled, and this doesn't look like spoiled for now.

chat app uses steam APIs. it never gets any of ur login data at all, all is done through browser on steam itself. I'm using it for ages now... works fine, and is essential to me, especially since the only social site i use is steam itself.

The problem is not getting scammed, because they've made it pretty clear that there will be no support for scam using the official authenticator either.

The problem is that if not careful, you may find yourself locked out of your account, again just as with the official authenticator. But unlike the official authenticator, it is entirely possible that the support will tell you that there is nothing they can do about it.

it's using the same APIs official app is using, the same things that other workarounds ppl have to use instead if they have a Windows phone, so the risk is the same.

also, there's always a backup, in form of steam guard backup codes that anyone can get, in case revocation code doesn't do the trick somehow, for removing the app from the process.

I researched the thing a lot... imo, whatever risk there is, is minimal, and mostly comes to own stupidity and recklessness, which is true for the official app too.

USA (not the country, ofc) has been updated recently, introducing notifications... don't ask me how they work yet, but there's support for lock screen and stuff...

I'm guessing, given time, I might even stop using chat for steam app, and just switch to USA completely.

but does it help with the trade delay?
goodone Apr 7, 2016 @ 4:40am
ofc, u approve pending trades from the app.

keep in mind that u can trade from a device as long as u have the device u r trading from steam mobile guard authenticated long enough, the same as for official steam app.

currently, that's 7 days.

If Valve impose this on 100% of its users they need to be able to supply a solution to 100% of its users.

u will need revocation code, which u received when u added steam mobile authenticator on ur mobile, during account linking. if you do not have the revocation code, there's no help but to contact steam support.

lack of steam app for Microsoft's mobile platform?

if that's your reason, sincerely, considering how much Android is bloatwared and how much unstable and erratic steam app on Android is, I'm not even sure that was such a great idea. especially considering that, beyond authenticator and maybe chat, there's very little use from the app itself, as most functions work better using browser, even mobile version, even on IE.
