After launching it's icon appears in Dock only for a second and then disappears. Can you help me with it? Mac OS X 10.8.3
Once the file has been renamed, you should be able to start up Steam and get back online. Note: if the above fails, try following all of the steps again but rather than starting up Steam, re-install it instead.
Worked for me - I'm now back online.
Hey, look, you should have it, it's not in the /Applications/Steam.app/ - it's in the ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/registry.vdf ('backslash is for space character in Terminal')

I don't have Steam folder in Library/Application Support
No spaces in names&
Crash just crash
Your old registry.vdf was broken in some way and by deleting it, you force Steam to create a new, hopefully functional one.
well, obviously it's not creating functional ones. :'(
