Recording with Quicktime crashing steam

Ahoy hoy. Recently, I've found that when I try to record video AND audio with Quicktime all of my games will crash immediately. Recording video alone will work. As a sidenote, Quicktime is not my go-to for something like this, however the version of Camtasia I purchased has serious crashing issues of its own which are yet to be remedied by the publisher. Any advice on how to make this work, or substitutions I should make would be greatly appreciated.
