Shop doesn't load anymore

Well, I'm running Steam on a lot of machines, but two or three
weeks ago, one specific Mac, one that already ran Steam for years,
began to make trouble.

The first thing that occured was, that I could not bypass the shop
entry page that urged us to activate a mobile phone based, two
factor authentication.

Clicking the "to shop" button did nothing and as it seems, a lot
of others had the same problems too.
On all other systems (also including two other Macs) that worked.

Now, that one Mac doesn't even show that page anymore.
Clicking the big "Shop" link at the top does absolutely nothing.
The loading icon on the upper top rotates endlessly.

I still can play games and access the community and profile pages,
but the shop won't load. I also already reinstalled Steam (without
deleting any settings, though), but that didn't change anything.

I assume this has something to do with that two factor auth nagging
screen, but what and how to fix that?

Any ideas?

Well, I just read about

steam://flushconfig

I did that.
Now, the community, profile and account pages also stopped working.
