Account Hacking
I've decided to comment on this, having just recovered my account from some @-hole. I think it is becoming a problem. All the posts I've read have shown it a growing concern in the community. Is it just me? Or does anyone else agree?

Let me discuss my account being hijacked. Up until I lost access, I had only three friends on here. I never posted or shared my account information with anyone. I had a seemingly difficult password, it was 12 characters, varying number letter combination.

One day on my way to work I received an email from Steam notifying me that my email change had been accepted. I had never sent in a request to do that. I took it for a spam email. simply because when I was at work I tested my steam access and I was still able to access my account. So I brushed it off. My mistake. After the weekend is when the jack@ss changed everything on my account and removed access. It took a week and a half for Steam to give me access back. When I regained control I toughened my password, changed the information the idiot provided (he is from Japan) and changed my profile name. Another question to everyone, should I change my login ID and perhaps get another email address for the account?

The main reason I am posting this is because today "someone" attempted to change the password on my account. I contacted steam and they told me that it was probably someone else in the community who has a similar login ID. I've looked, and haven't found one. So I have to assume it is @-hole again. Thoughts?

If you have already changed your passwords, enable two step verification on your email.
That way any hijacker would need to get the SMS code sent to your mobile in order to get into your email.
I hadn't thought of that. That sounds like a winner. Thanks for the recommendation!

The first thing you need to do is figure out how your account got hijacked in the first place. There are no hacked accounts. The number one reason why accounts are hijacked is falling for phishing scams. Did someone send you a link to a fake Steam login site promising you free games? The other way to get your account hijacked is by downloading things you should not, like pirated Steam games or game cheats. Those downloads can contain trojans designed to steal your account information. If that is the case, you need to format your computer and not do that again.
Don't forget to enable Steam Guard.....
I haven't downloaded any pirated Steam games, haven't clicked on any steam emails. Whenever I get an email from Steam, my bank or whatever, I always go to the site directly, rather than use a link that could be phished. I have Norton 360 and it's up to date, and use a firewall, but could it be my computer itself was hacked?

Oh and I only use Mods from the workshop, not add ons.

Steam Guard is enabled. Made sure that was on both my computers.

While that is theoretically possible, it would not make any sense. Nobody is going to go through that much trouble just to steal Steam accounts when there are much easier ways. And if they did, they would steal credit card numbers and bank accounts and purchase all the games they want. The only other reasonable option is that someone in your house with direct access to your computer (usually a family member or friend) is stealing your account.
Hmmm, I will have to look into that. I would hate to think that, that would be a horrible betrayal.

maybe you bould hide your information in your profile
Get a less ♥♥♥♥♥♥ antivirus, and make sure you get a malware scanner as well. Also stop downloading so much porn, those keyloggers are probably what are getting your password.
right now i am on mozila because the account stayed entered but i cant enter in my account in steam
my email adress was changed and my pass same problem but i haved the steam guard activated
why it didnt worked?
All the posts I've read have shown it a growing concern in the community.

And where exactly have you read such posts? I don't see any.

Get a less ♥♥♥♥♥♥ antivirus, and make sure you get a malware scanner as well. Also stop downloading so much porn, those keyloggers are probably what are getting your password.

I know someone offline that claims Norton is the best program to use. This same guy likes to brag about "hackers", "keyloggers", and other bollocks he reads and hears about.
The more I questioned him on what he thinks he knows, the less he really did know.

Whenever you hear about "my account got hacked" and everything going that direction, its either made up, or far fetched.

And in some cases (like certain people on social sites) its a made up excuse because he or she has been caught being a troll, stalker, or trouble making A hole.

Edit
I forgot to point out that Norton is no better or worse than other programs.
