gtx 970 is great for 1080p, but at the higher res you will want more vram and a faster single gpu
sli doest add more vram
- twice the performance if SLI isn't supported
- twice the vram
- and half the power consumption
A single 1070 / 1080 / 980 Ti will certainly help to eliminate all the issues SLI comes with, at around the same performance, or better.
Thank you!
no true : games are increasingly getting VRAM hungry and the GTX has "only " 3.5Vram not enough for the comming games. Look at Mirrors Edge Catalyst Hyper settings -- a GTX 970 even in Sli performs under 30 fps.. expect to see that kind perfomance in near future titles with the GTX 970 sli.. Im upgrading to GTX 1080 very soon because of this.
Also if you have enough system RAM they can share that as well.
Correct a single card has always my preference above 2.
The 970s should be able to sell for a decent price
You may want to clean them up a bit, and possibly change the thermal paste on them before selling though.
While on paper 2x gtx980's seem better, i actually get higher framerates with a single 1080 in games like GTA5.
And more communication between the system and the GPUs are being done on SLI than with a single GPU in a sense.
