Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 7 Not Detecting Driver
After deciding to upgrade from my 360 controllers whose sticks are worn out to spare Xbox One controllers I had, I've run into trouble with the wireless adapter.

PC is Windows 7 x64 SP1.

Adapter is detected as "XBOX ACC" in Device Manager and fails to install drivers (code 28).
I've manually downloaded and attempted to install different drivers based on countless installation guides to no avail (multiple iterations of mt7612US and mt7612US.win7).

The controller is detected just fine if connected by wire; it's only the adapter that fails to be recognized properly.

I'm about to put the adapter in a dispos-all and the controller through a wall, so your help is appreciated.

Win 10 would be the easiest solution.

I have done it with my xbox one controller and it does work.

*PLUG THE CONTROLLER DIRECTLY INTO THE COMPUTER USB PORT*

When you plug the controller in go to device manager and find the xbox controller and make sure it knows what it is. When thats done click on it and it will come up with find driver either on the conp or the web.....do the web one and it will find and i stall the driver for w7 64bit. Make sure when doing this you have the right drivers as if you do 32bit for 64 it wont work.

Wireless adapter, not the controller itself.

Controller connects just fine, once again it's the wireless adapter that isn't recognized.

I know this is kinda old but are you sure you have the right dongle? There are two dongles. The old fat dongle works for Windows 7 to Windows 10, the new slim dongle designed for the Xbox One S controller ONLY works in Windows 10. I purchased the old dongle from Best Buy's website and had my father pick it up in-store since he works near it and they gave him the new dongle instead of the old one I wanted specifically for Windows 7 support. Instead of returning it I decided to try to find a way to get it to work. I tried mixing the Win7 and Win10 driver software, even trying to create my own by editing the driver and running it in with Win7's testing mode on and nothing worked. By the time I gave up, returning it was out of the question so I'll probably just buy the fat dongle at some point until I finally decide to upgrade to Win10.

I'm just assuming you're having the same issue as I am since mine does the exact same thing.

I tried everything, but my eventual fix was windows 10 prompted by State of Decay 2’s cross platform capabilities.

Well modern PCs should be using Win10 64bit anyways; why would you be using any other WinOS.

And yes games like State of Decay 2 require Win10 as it uses the Microsoft Store + Xbox App
Those cross-platform games mean you pay once, play on Win10 or XboxOne via same Live Account.

I don't mind Windows 10. I use it on a few non-essential PC's of mine. But with some of the updates ruining it or causing major issues it's not something I like to take a chance with, such as the "delete all your files" update bug that happened twice recently. That and a few times I've had devices that stopped working after an update thanks to the Windows 10 drivers for said device no longer working with the newest version of Windows 10. And there's also the fact some games flat out do not work on Win10 and I have quite a few that don't. I already have several keys from multiple PC upgrades and even a dual boot of Windows 10 on my main machine (That I did to grab myself a Windows 10 key when the upgrade was free.) but simply never use it.

Then turn off Windows Updates; control them, never allow it to auto anything.
Just like you would do under Win7/8

My updates have always been manually selected since the XP days. The problem with Windows 10 is that it's not that easy and on top of that if I remember correctly, if you don't install the major updates in a timely manner you maybe forced to reinstall Windows 10 with a currently updated image. At some point I'll be updating as I won't have a choice since I'll be moving up to Ryzen and Win7 support isn't official but it's a hard pill to swallow since Windows 7 has been the most stable OS I've ever used and have had nothing but issues from doing absolutely nothing on Windows 10 on multiple machines.

Ryzen generally works just fine on Win7 SP1 64bit Pro
As long as you're not using a CPU with onboard Vega GPU

Which games?

I've yet to actually find a game that doesn't specifically work with Win10. I've encountered many claims, but have managed to prove them wrong and get the game working.

Win10 has backwards compatibility, believe it or not. Even with my old DX and pre DX titles, I have no issue playing them. One of the biggest issues is that people rely on the games to install older DX versions libraries.

I know the ins and outs of Windows 10 and what it's capable of. I'm talking older games mostly, I don't know the exact ones off the top of my head these days since I haven't made the switch and thus haven't had to worry about it but I own a few with wide spread issues with Windows 10. If worse came to worse when I do upgrade I can run those games via a Win7 VM.

I've heard the same as well though I heard there would obviously be no new updates to help with speed/vulnerabilities if using Ryzen with Win7.

They update mostly via BIOS micro-code anyways; keep this up to date, as well as your AMD Chipset Drivers and you should be fine. Win7/8 are on its last breath though, so keep that in mind.
