Steam should in every game genre (FPS,MMO,SIMULATORS,flight/space sims...etc) give those playerbase new games development news and announcements helping those developers and game by marketing it.
as i see in my and in others example there are games in development that we will buy for sure but never heard for them, therefor steam could push them since they will be for sure published on steam.
example: Infinity battlescape from I-novae studios, since i'm playing space sims by luck i heard for them but rest of the space community didn't and they were quite suprised when they saw examples of game prototype. And I-novae already comfirmed on their forums that it will be published on steam.
Steam should help small developers in their marketing, expecially promising projects what Infinity battlescape is!
maybe you can make news for you section about upcoming games and updates related to player taste.
