can I have multiple steam libraries on my computer on different hard drives?
I want to create another steam library different from my main one on another drive,
but keep the original.
I don't want to move everything to the new library, just keep 2 seperate libraries.
I guess it's ok, right?
just wanna be sure that it's not gonna mess things up for me, and that steam can handle 2 different libraries.

Next time you download a game you can choose where to put it.

He may want to clarify, but I think he means two separate libraries (installations), with two copies of everything (including steam.exe), except for games, unless he also wanted separate copies of them.

You'd have to keep each installation up-to-date separately, depending on which steam.exe was run, but I guess it could be done. You may have problems with the registry, since you can only technically have one installation.

thanks for the answers, let me clarify a bit.
I use steam mainly for indie games, and my steam library is located on my c: drive
which is a 128 gb ssd.

I got a steam key for indie game the movie deluxe version which is 7 gb, and Ii dont want it on my c: drive, I want on a seperate drive,
so I'm just wondering if I can install the movie on another library on another drive,
and keep my current library with all my games on my c: drive,
and not worry about having multiple libraries causing some mess.

Thanks again.

You're welcome! In that case you can just do what TheBDK suggested. When it asks you where to install it, point to the other drive.

nice
In 2018 it doesn't seem possible anymore to have multiple libraries. I went to "Settings/Downloads/Steam Library folders", but there I can only add one library. I want to do the same thing as Kickin' Chicken, i.e. splitting games between an SSD drive and a bigger slower drive. Is there a workaround for this? Aside from manually switching back and forth?
Never mind, Steam complained that I can't have two library folders on the same drive AND complained that I can't remove the installation directory from my folder list. I just wanted to have C:\Games and D:\Games as my libs, but since Steam is installed on C it wouldn't let me have the former. -_- But I don't care all that much anymore, I just moved my C games into the Steam installation folder now.

I tried it just now and for some reason steam just ignored it. But it's ok, I don't care anymore for now.
