Install of HL2 Episode 2 broken.
I have verified game files, deleted and re-installed twice, and then opened the files in GCF scape to make absolutely sure of the following:

If you install HL2 Episode 2 through steam right now, you get a broken install, and no way to fix it.

Many of the sounds are missing (not in the .gcf at all) and many of the facial animations are missing as well. I am not sure how much more of the game is missing.

You can immediately tell that the game is broken. Start a new game, skip the intro (which seems to be fine), walk through the falling train cars until Alyx comes walking up to tell you to hold on. Here arms will move but her face does not, and no voice is played. I got about 20 minutes into the game and noticed that about 50% of all game sounds (primarily voices) are missing.

So I installed this game in January and it was working fine, I re-installed last night and this is broken.

I have clicked Verify Game Cache and it says 100% complete, no problems. I defrag game cache and it says everything is fine. But open the GCF and you can see that half of it is missing.

So pretty much just letting someone know its broken. TY

Do you have "half-life 2 episode two <your language>.gcf"?

Same problem here, Half life 2 and Half life 2: episode one work fine, but episode two is broken. I tried to switch languages but there is no voice in game.

Steam does not download <your language>.gcf and the in game menu for selecting voice language is broken.

I'm having the same problem, reinstalling the game didn't help.

Is there any news yet?
I installed HL2 ep2 yesterday and have the same issue with voices...

Enabling Beta solved the issue for me. The game content needed to be converted to some new format (which took about half an hour), then the missing content was automatically re-downloaded.
