any other software can work to hack you not only steam . trojan & malware (they can recod your log in info to every website you go and send it to that dude who made them ) can come to your pc by downloading form webtites and even when you are playing with some one you can get to varus they call it bot or zombie bot they use dose bot to do DDos attack on games and every one can get it and send it to other people by playing or sending email and ........

get good antivirus and scan your pc

the black market for virtual items is a multi billion dollar industry. since people will pay real money for your virtual goods, why wouldnt someone want to hack your account and steal your stuff?

but it seems a little random, i havent ever been hacked before until reacently, and reacently there has been quite an upsurge of it

talk to customer support about the 77,000 accounts each month that get hacked. The only random is who gets hit.

If keylogger got onto your machine, they also will have access to your email. And it wouldnt be a surprise if they had email forwarding set up. as for where the malware came from, it could of been from a trusted site thru an ad banner. or they may have got it in thru a windows exploit before it was patched. Doesnt matter how they got in, what matters is you getting them out of your computer system.

I've never noticed it, and no one can hack your account without having your account info. Then it's the phishing, no one hacked you, you got phished. Something on your PC allowed them to access your account.

so what steps do you reccomend on removing it. I have run a virus scan, restarted my PC to finish said scan, i then changed passwords to both my email and steam account, anything else?

Well then that's a mystery, because hackers have to bypass layers and layers of Valve servers before they can even reach your account.
