Honestly, STO has matured and is a pretty rad MMO now. I didn't play it on release, but its now my go to MMO. Although it takes a little getting into,
can you control your very own starship enterprice and travel the galaxy or do you work as a red shirt and work your way up
Honestly STO has a fair amount to offer MMO players who have grown tired of the standard MMO formula.
Generally speaking, you acquire command of your first starship within the first 30 minutes of the game, regardless of faction. You effectively play as a Captain in this game(even though ranks go up to admiral). You play the role of a Kirk/Picard/Janeway/Archer/etc. in command of your ships that you'll acquire.
You start with your beginner frigate, and get a free upgrade roughly every 10 levels. Some factions have more options to choose from than others. (Federation chooses between escorts, cruisers, and science ships. Klingons have Battlecruisers, Raptors, and Raiders/Bird-of-Prey's. Romulans progress fairly linearly through Warbirds, but opens up more in the higher levels.)
In addition to just being able to pick different ships, their configuration, and change their equipment, you also have Bridge Officers and Duty Officers. The Former are Spocks/Rikers/Tuvoks/etc. that play a key part in what your ship can do in combat and form your away team on the ground(which can be split with other players and their "Boffs"). The Latter is effectively your crew(bartenders, biologists, armory officers, etc.) and you can send them out on various assignments for some interesting perks. The Duty Officer system works in realtime, so it's a way to play the game without actually playing it - in a manner of speaking.
There's also the ground element where you can beam down to planets and aboard stations and such to either do missions, hang out in 'social zones', or whatnot. Yes, you can even beam aboard other players' ships(if they invite you) or fleet('guilds') starbases and facilities and interact with them.
I think you said it all thanks you. one more question how are the war battles like it is in the trailer could there be a large arena and you fly your ship around destroying the other enemy ship or was that mission realated and your going up against AI.
please refrain from being a total insufferable prick thank you
