Star Trek Online

Does anyone even public chat anymore?
Star Trek Online chatbox used to be a chatterbox a year ago. Now nobody talks at all. I really wonder why? Is it because many players are just rude and refuse to use chatbox or they're noobs at how it works? I have not SEEN one player or anyone chat in the chatbox. It's disappointing! It used to be VERY VERY active the last few years. Now it's just like.. DIED off. No chatter anymore. What's wrong with chatting? Man it's disappointing. it seems like the only way to get advice via gaming is forums and discussion when it could be cut in half time and saved if someone would at least TALK on chatbox. I guess people are scared or stupid and don't know how zone and local channel works. It's disappointing. STO isn't gonna be popular anymore if nobody chats the chatbox anymore. I seriously wish they made Bridge Commander 2 instead of STO.

That explains the lack of knowledge for the rest of the gamers audience not knowing there is a chat box. NO excuse! Names James Rage Walters add me. It's nice to add another friend on the list. Need more people though. Still wish gamers would chat publicly ingame more like they used to.

I'd love to play Bridge Commander 2, but only, if it doesn't become such an money grab like Star Trek Online.

Go to Earth Space Dock, look at the zone chat tab. Watch it for ten minutes - then tell me if you still want to communicate with people in the game.

Or, if you're feeling particularly daring, go to Drozana Station. Watch the ERPers doing their.. thing. But don't get too close to them or they may want you to join in. Then again if you're into that, have fun.

Touche, exactly what I would've said, if you hadn't beaten me to it. Yeah, if you think you want to talk in local or zone, goto Earth Space Dock or Drozana, you'll think twice about it. The best thing to do is to get a load of close friends and go from there, friends in STO (if you pick them right lol) will probably want to talk atleast somewhat more civilly than most players would lol.

What are you on about, Kal-El? ESD is practically a spamfest 24/7. As for other zones - Why would they be full of chat with people coming and going so fast that you can barely ask a question before someone has already left for another part of space?

People talk on ESD, in their fleet chats and using teamspeak. Just like you'd expect in any other MMO that uses so many tiny, instanced areas. It's not like STO consists of big "adventure zones" with multiple missions like in most MMOs.

The flow of conversation in STO is about as juvinile as one would ever want. The only inspirational thing to come out of most STO zone chats is a desire to turn them off.

You might want to refrain from calling people who don't chat in zone about random stuff stupid, rude, scared, noobs, ect. It's simply a preference. I prefer to play the game and I rarely have any reason to talk about random stuff in chat. If you want advice just ask in zone chat and maybe someone will answer. You could join a fleet and ask them questions. STO seems popular and I like it more than any other mmo I've played.

Turned off zone chat in Beta...still don't think it is safe to return.

A lot of the veteran players don't really hang out around the 'newbie' zones anymore; most are either in the Dyson Sphere, Delta Quadrant, or a space station waiting for their queues to pop.

The proliferation of Transwarps and warp speed(they retooled speed to where Warp 5 now is roughly where Warp '10' used to be) mean people really don't spend a lot of time in sector space.

The other big issue is for an MMo the way zones work in STO is you spend so little time in one zone that its impossible to have a chat unless you stop playing..

You need to join a specific channel or find some friends.

Arcs version of STO is a massive chatterbox...sometimes i have to just turn it off so i wont be distracted.

Add me as a friend, then if you have a fleet add me, or if your friend me and you don't have a fleet, I'll add you to one of mine...

But that doesn't make any sense.. few years ago when this game was launched everyone was literally talking on the chatbox for like HOURS! Maybe that was before microphones were introduced but it's so annoying nobody uses the chatbox. I am hard of hearing. I cannot HEAR their mics or understand them. They at least should see that when i inform them. They can use the chatbox anyways. SO what? It's there for a reason and it should be fair for every gamer out there.. i really rather use the chatbox. I liked how it was busy and now nobody uses it anymore. such a serious shame..
