Question about the classes

I've been playing for a few days I just can't decide which class I want to pick.

I started with an Engineer, because Starfleet is famous for their Engineers. So in the first tutorial mission you are shown that "class quests" happen in missions. In this example, an Engineer will save the ship by diverting some stuff(scifiscience) and as a Tactical officer I just vent some plasma on 3 enemies? **edit** If you're not an Engineer the ship explodes. That feels more significant to me than 3 Gorn.


Finally to my question. Does Tactical get some more important feeling side missions? I was really enjoying my Engineer but kept getting thrown off by the color of my collar. Now trying a Tactical officer and it just feels a lot less interesting.

PS Never tried a Science officer. If that's more your thing I'd like to hear about that too.

All have their (very) minor side mission here and there. Nothing significant, all classes do the same principal missions, only differences are the rare class specific side quests.

Matter of play style. Tactical is for DPS, Engineer is for Tanking/Support, Science for Force Multiplier/Support. You can and should mix it up though. Being an engineer but flying a tactical (escort) class gives you more survivability with the expense of the highest possible dps. And on the flip side a tactical officer in a cruiser class ship will have a bit more kick. You get the idea.

Currently a Science officer [Mainly Medical on Ground missions] with a Assault Cruiser and currently enjoying my gameplay so far the only memorable minor science side quest I've done was scanning the ground slowly closing the area of my objective

Thanks for the feedback! Finally landed on Engineer. I figure if I'm ever going to play the other factions Tactical made more sense as Klingon and Science for Romulan.

Besides, Starfleet is famous for their Engineers. ;D
