try to press B... this changes the view into FPS mode... more is not available

Thanks. I'll give that a try.

Bah, that isn't actually FPS. It is "looking over the shoulder" view. I really wish games like this would quit calling themselves MMORPG and start calling themselves MMOGG (god game as opposed to role-playing game). I'm going to role-play my character, exploring and interacting with a virtual world, but I can't do it through the eyes of my character? Kind of stupid.

And since when does RPG mean thru the eyes of the character only.
saintsfan36 10 ago. 2014 às 12:44
Well, if you actually understood what role-playing is, then you wouldn't have to ask that question. No, I won't bother to explain it. I have a feeling you already know.

when you are in 'fps mode' try to press additionally 'X' then you can better aim... perhaps it is a step toward your requirement... ;)

No, it probably is not, I don't think saintsfan is about better aiming. But he is missing the whole history of what Role Playing Games are. They started off with a top-down look, then it got isometric. Later you got (and still get) third person view in a more free environment. Having first person view is a very recent addition. Actually, the first role playing games used paper, pencils and dice. RPGs were there before normal people had computers. So the role playing always had to be in your head, not the presentation.

So while I personally prefer first person view as well, it has nothing to do with whether you are "role playing" or not. It may improve your immersion if you do not see yourself, but it really isn't a big deal to me and it most certainly isn't a reason to complain that it is not an RPG if only third person view is available.

Nah this is no RPG-Game at all, its an arcade shooter with some star trek models.
There was a real FirstPerson-View some time ago. It went broke -or maybe it is working as intended- back in 2013

I'm not missing anything about the history and what RPG is all about. I was playing pencuk and paper RPG's before most of you were born. If any of you don't understand why "god view" is not role-playing, then that is just sad commentary on your part, not mine.

Done with this conversation, as I have enough experience on the Steam forums to know wehre it is going. The extemely stupid, dishonest, fanbois, and trolls of the world will tell me how wrong I am. Blah, blah, blah, all the while, with every post they make, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have no understanding of RPG.

Oh saintsfan, you give us saints fans a bad name (yes, I am one, too). And no, you probably haven't played p&p before I was born, but it's nice to have assumptions about others.

And then: you know where this is going since you are the one leading the way. Direct ad hominem attacks - always a nice touch. Though completely unasked for and even wrong. Stupid? Mebbe. Dishonest? Who and where. You know that this word has a meaning, somebody telling an untruth intentionally. Nothing like that here. Fanbois? Certainly not me - too recent an addition to STO, not convinced I really like it yet, seems to lack anything remotely resembling strategy in ground combat. Troll? Nobody here trolled - that word has a meaning, too, besides "somebody on a forum I do not like".

@TheExile: Well, a matter of perspective. When you've been playing computer (or console) games for more than 30 years, it's still in the second half and feels recent to me ;)

Funny thread. Just want to toss in my opinion. RPG comes in all variants. from textbased only, ASCII, 2D-top-down, Isometric, cardgames, pen & paper, 3D over the shoulder and first-person-variants, and propably more. I must laugh hard when I see You, Saintsfan36, oppose that fact.

People will find -- and if they cannot find, actively seek out -- all manner of insignificant things to rage over, won't they?

Actually, that isnt first person. that's third person, it's over the shoulder, i know the differences between first perosn and thurd perosn, first perosn is pretty much the P.O.V of the charecter, seen from his eyes, third perosn is like an over-the-shoulder/side style.
