Scanning anomalies for R&D.
I have a federation science officer. When she made Lieutenant Comander, I got her the basic science vessel, and in that ship I was given a ray of light that showed mer where to find R&D materials every time I scanned the area I was in. Sience I am getting into R&D it was really great thing to have. When she made Comander, I got her a new ship that didn't have it any more. Anyone know what it was that gave me that directional light, and how I can get it on my new ship?

Afaik any captain/spaceship got that scanner, and iirc the default key is V

Yeah it's a basic ability everyone has, either V key of the v shaped icon by the minimap.

If there's R&D stuff to collect you'll be told there's anomalies in the area and unless its at an extreme range there should be a beam showing the way.

Exception to this is when a mission objective or other interactable thing is closer and it guides you there. There are a couple of times when this is a console that just gives info but never stops being usable so the scanner keeps picking it up.

If a node is out the way as they often are in space then I'd agree but if you're going past one you may as well pick it up.

Takes no time at all to do a simple scan.

In the context of the OP's Lt Com who has no access to the admiralty as it opens at 50+ and only just starting the R&D grind.

Doffing was the only helpful addition you gave but at the same time you failed to consider their level and number of doffs that they are likely to have outwith the initial batch of freebies.

I wish I had screen shots to show you. I have one ship that points right at an R&D item, but the other only tells me that they are there. It doesn't tell me where. Just that its there. Besides, I'm making a low to EC from my crafting.

Down at the bottom end of each R&D school are a 20 hour task that gives 6-7k xp. Start off focussing on those as the more levels you have the higher chance you have of getting crits which give better results.

On space maps there are times when an anomaly is simply out of scanner range, either ignore it or continue to scan as you fly around doing the rest of the mission.

False, A lot or the nodes will easily give the mats needed for a 20hour task

False, getting the R&D started early means that once you are at a level where you're after craftables from it you don't suddenly find yourself having to start from scratch. Especially when the R&D is a timesink rather than the old setup where you could buy mats and power level it.

And the point of a learning curve is that you learn, not blindly follow what one person who doesnt seem to recall what things are like when a player starts a game advises.

Needing to level 6 schools all at once shows a lack of preparedness and foresight.

I've been levelling a character slowly on the ps4 version so totally split off from my stash of stuff on pc and from simply scanning in missions have had plenty to keep the R&D ticking over in beams, engineering bother in double digits with ground weaps sat at level 5 for the time being while the character themselves is around 34 now.

Spreading the resources over 6 schools assumes you've levelled one to 15 and two others to 5 plus joined a fleet and been able to buy the 6th slot which isnt actually needed, useful yes but vital no.

I'd suggest you try it yourself but consoles lack forums to rant incessantly about your hatred for the game so you'd probably not like it much.

Mr. Fibble, you know the saying? "Never argue with a stupid person, he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience." ;)

I learned quite some time ago, if Nemesis needs to label others as stupid and noobs and claim that his opinion is the only one that matters so he can feel superior and think that the term "lol" is some kind of punctuation, just let him, as it is most likely a compensation for his rl issues. Pity him, ignore him, whatever, but better not take him serious. ;)

What I was putting was mostly for the benefit of the OP.

And as it's friday, at the end of one of the wettest junes in a long time too, I kind of need something to laugh at so may as well be the resident knowitlol.
