As for your idea I like it and I'd gladly go back & buy older editions of DotP if they did it, but I wonder if it would cause balance issues (not like they don't exist already). I imagine they design the decks in each version of DotP around each other at least to some degree.
If that's so, then how would the OP's proposed idea cause not cause them to make more money? If more people bought an old product to use with new products, you've increased your potential sales.
It would encourage sales of 2012, which have probably been trickling down to nothing. The decks would cause balance issues, but we have those already. Often, these balance issues can be overcome by changing decks up to match. I know it'll cause balance issues because any new card introductions ALWAYS cause issues.
And let's face it, a lot of MTG players LOVE to alter their decks. It's a lot of the fun to me. Example: The deck Aura Servants has been terrible for me. I went back, reset the deck and focused on a balance and bam, it's working.
So if players wanted to play the 2012 decks in 2013, they would have to buy 2012. That's the nature of the beast. If they encounter great 2012 decks in multiplayer, it'll also add incentive for them to buy. It would also enhance 2013 by providing variety and more options before we all get tired of the same old decks.
