How to unlock Dark Matter Mode?

I have beaten the final boss without using physics/god options (I wasn't even aware of them until recently) but I can't find the Dark Matter mode in the menus?

I have beaten every missions, all are green. What gives?

Options, God Options, Start as a Dark Matter Asteroid

In that order.

I know where it's supposed to be, I just don't have the "Start as Dark Matter Asteroid" menu item AT ALL!

Did you beat the final boss without any cheats on? You can restart that fight in God Options, and make sure there are no warnings on the Pause Menu saying that Physics or God Options are on.

Well it worked this time.. that's odd, because I'm pretty sure I didn't use any options before beating the boss the first time.
