Gamespy Shutdown and Saints Row 2

Gamespy has announced that they will be shutting down all multiplayer servers on May 31, 2014. This shutdown will affect hundreds of games that use their service for matchmaking, including Saints Row 2’s co-op and competitive multiplayer modes. While we are still looking at alternate solutions, here’s currently what the shutdown will mean for the PC version of Saints Row 2.

Saints Row 2 PC LAN options for coop and multiplayer will still continue to work, but online will not. Many players have reported successfully connecting and playing online using virtual LAN software like Evolve or Tunngle which do not require a connection to Gamespy servers. We plan on testing and releasing a step-by-step connection guide before the actual shutdown date so PC players can continue to play online using this method.

You should still be able to play online using Evolve or Tunngle after the shutdown. Check the Guide for Playing SR2 sticky by RoadKilla for details.

We're just planning on doing an easy to follow step-by-step tutorial on how to do all that to help our more technically challenged fans. :)

Hope a fix is explained for the few people who have the issue where they have to disable there network adapter after starting a LAN game then re-enable it for the other player to see the room. This this a small issue that effects some people with the game.

Nerp. No SR1 or SR2 remakes. Not even SR5 is planned at the moment.

SR4 kinda went over the top so it will take time to figure which direction to have the series go in or a redo or spin off or whatever....

Yeah SR4 is just too much for me (played it on console). SR 2 had the best blend of humor and seriousness, IMO.

If any game deserved a second chance to be on PC... it would be that game I remember so fondly.
