Saints Row 2

Saints Row 2

Gentleman of the Row of ANY use? (concerning bugs)
We all know that Saints Row 2 is a really great game. It lieast it would be, if there weren't billions of bugs.

Usually I don't find bugs too buggy as long as they LET me PLAY the game I PAID for (thanks to the dev team for that crappy job, by the way -.-)
But I can never play Saints Row 2 for more than an hour (and that is, if I'm lucky) because then - for absolutely no comprehensible reason - it crashes.

Now I heard the Gentleman of the Row mod was somewhat a magical remedy. If I pressed only P in the .exe, it was said, without any extra mods activated, the three given files would work as a bugfix which removed most of the game-crashing bugs.

What can I say? No. They didn't. I spent hours of reading through guides and readmes before I downloaded GotR mod and I minded them all, but not a single thing has changed even with the "fixed" data generated by the mod. Not a thing. Still as many game crashes. Still no idea why.

What's your guys' experience with the issue? With the mod? Should I better give up my hopes on playing the game happily and instead download GTA2 again?

Did you use any mod of some sort? Because after what I've experience, I can hardly belief that's possible, shortguy xD

Playing this game on the PC is tricky, at best. Even with GotR, you need to *rully* read IdolNinja's guide in order to figure out which portions of GotR you need to have installed. Even then you're gonna end up with crashes 'cause this was just that bad of a port. The game is still awesome. I use GotR and I only crash on rare occasions, but like you, some people still crash more often than ValuJet even with the mod installed.

GotR is not a magical cure-all. While it fixes a ton of bugs, the game will still crash. It's even noted in the documentation for the mod that you'll want to save often because of the crashing.

Still crashes, and despite having Windows 8 and trying the fixes I can still only steer a car half the time and most of it runs as 1.5 speed. It makes missions like Road Rage impossable. Still have weapons suddenly pop out of my inventory, and cars magically appear and dissaper all over the map when populating. Sounds like others have had luck, but for me it's still a broken mess and a waste of money.

Thanks for the info. Of course I know it isn't, but sadly it didn't help at all yet. At least not as far as I can see. But for enhancement of gameplay it's a real nice thing :D

Same here. I thought about getting SR3 and SR4 at first, but after that fail investment, I'm not too sure if I should dare.

It didn't help me with regular crashes either, but it's not the reason why i uninstalled it, the reason is that saves made with Gotr are incompatible with vanilla and will cause a crash when loading.
True that. I think all the stuff besides bug fixes (which, as said, sadly didn't work out for me) is more important. Then again, why uninstall it, if the game is buggy with mods and without

I haven't had any trouble with Saints Row 3 or 4 and I got them first before I got Saints Row 2. The problem with 2 is the computer port from consel to PC. I finally got it running without crashes. The driving is still..er...challanging but it's playable finally.

Driving with key+mouse in SR2 = hell. It's much easier to use a controller, seriously.

Word of advice, make sure to use the "Controller Prompts" option from GotR, cause the game is display the key/mouse commands otherwise.

Wow, really? Tshhhhhh ... -.- They messed up quite every single thing with the port.

Do you mean easier as in "it's an easier handling" or as in "the game doesn't crash everytime you hit the brakes"?

Driving as in not like driving on black ice, or zig zagging dramatically when you tap a key, or having a rice burner performing a successful pit maneuver on my half-ton pickup, yet the same bike doesn't have enough power to go over a curb.

Those problems have nothing to do with ports, just Willy Wonk poor physics. Someone forgot to carry the one or something. The patch does address some of the issues with over-sensitive steering, but then you can't accelerate properly.
