"Can't start because OpenAL32.dll is missing on your computer"
What should I do? I need this file, and I need to know where to put it.

[EDIT BY DEVELOPER]

As of today, we are now using Steam's built-in runtime redistributable system. This will, hopefully, resolve any issues people were having with the notorious missing OpenAL DLL. Our thanks to everyone who helped us track down and resolve this issue! :)

If you have any issues after the patch, please email us at support@finalformgames.com.

This is the installer for OpenAL. It should fix the problem, it did for me: http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/oalinst.zip

In which folder do I have to install the OpenAL?
Nejco Mar 12, 2013 @ 11:55am
i think it's not important. just install it anywhere or leave default folder

Wow Austinz your find on the openAL file was a good one, i haven't been able to play this game in ages, and now I can!! just a simple "Run as admin" and install Open AL from that file and you did the trick, now this game runs as it did in the past and i'm very happy, btw, do you have any fix's for The Sims 3 for windows 8? or am I stuck with a non working game? 64 bit os

The creativelabs link is down. Any alternative to this? Wouldn't mind the game including dependencies like this instead of making the consumer hunt around for files.

edit: Win 8, 64bit. Compatibility mode and running as admin didn't help. Had no issue running the game on my old Vista 32bit laptop.

Yeah this game ain't working for me on Win 7 x64 and the link is still dead. Tacking on an opinion here -- this is pretty shoddy work. I hope there's some legal crap getting in the way of the dev just including the OpenAL files -- if not, this is pretty pathetic.

Works fine on my Windows 7 64-bit.

Me too, windows 8 64 bit would be awsome with this game.

Found an alternative download location: http://code.google.com/p/rallyraid/downloads/detail?name=oalinst.zip&can=2&q=
Looks legit, but naturally I'd suggest virus scanning first just to make sure.
