CAREFUL: This game may disconfigure a Linux nvidia driver [solved]
I opened the game in Linux, it was in window mode.

Changed it to full screen in the setup.

Game went to full screen fine.

After some playtime, I exited the game and my Linux display was all blurry. Text, buttons, everything was blurry, with some ghosting pixels around everything.

I have tried lots of thing yet it still broken. I have wasted HOURS trying to fix this.

Any help? Thanks.

EDIT: I finally fixed it by switching to the Nuveau libre driver. Removing the binary nvidia driver that has worked fine for months. Reinstall said driver and restart the machine.

I dont know how it is possible, but restarting did nothing, opening and closing again SpaceChem did nothing, opening other games did nothing, changin the resolution did nothing. The only thing that worked was unstallimg and reinstalling again the exact same nvidia binary driver.

I did not have this problem running in Linux Full Screen, when I was able to play this game. Now, when I want to play this game, it just crashes with unreadable garbage stack traces and no hint on what's wrong.

It seems Linux support is flaky to put it politely......

I too had np running on our linux box. Seems you have a prob w/gen settings config? Check that area out in base linux specs mate. Sorry can't be of specific help as it's my gal's rig.

Everything works perfectly here.

I recommend checking both fullscreen and quick alt-tab.

maybe you could post your specifications from the steam system information
working smoothly with the radeon driver here

Thanks for all the help and well wishes. In the end it worked again after uninstallnig/reinstalling the last few versions of the nvidia binary driver. The nuveau libre driver worked fine, but the closed source one which has been working fine for months somehow was left messed up by exiting the game in full screen mode. I dont even understand how that can be.

So, the solution was to reinstall it and reacticvate it, reset and finally it worked.

I wish I had tried that before so many other things, it would have saved my some time.

Actually, I havent opened SpaceChem again, I really dont want to risk my gpu driver / display messing up again. I would like to know if the issue can be reproduced but Im not willing to risk more hours of bug chasing around with this.

So far it seems to run fine here on proprietary nvidia driver.. in the past the Nouveau driver always gave me bad performance and no support for hardware accelerated 3D.
Would be cool if they become on par with the closed source one, but i highly doubt it.
Even older cards like this GT 520 still runs much better with closed driver.

I wasn't able to reproduce it.

What usually happens with games that are either old or use really primitive engines is that they mess with your display resolution to go full screen but don't set it back to the normal value when exiting. Did you try going to nvidia-settings and seeing if your display settings are okay?
