You can also check the integrity of the game: through the steam interface, right click on E.Y.E and choose properties.
Under the local files tab choose check the integrity of game cache.
As you have never played the following should not be an issue but have a check in:
steam\SteamApps\common\EYE\EYE\resource\vgui\save
delete any files except save_french.txt and save_english.txt
The go to My Documents\streumon\eye\Save and delete all files.
Try to run the game and see if it works.
Late post I know, but this solution is really frustrating. I have to delete all my saves just to get the game functioning again every once in a while. That ruins all interest for me, especially when you have to play the game three times to actually get the ending. Having the constant risk of losing hours of progress really dampens the fun factor of this game.
I hope when you guys make a sequel (I really hope you do, because despite the flaws of this game, it definitely is a bit of an rough, uncut gem.) Things like this are smoothed over and at least less frequent.
