Game requesting CD key, but steam won't supply me with one
I bought the doom3 and ROE bundle the other day, but when I start the game, it asks me for cd keys for both games. However, when I try to view the key thru steam, the window that pops up just hangs on "requesting key". The keys are not autoloaded when I enter the game and I am not able to view the key via steam thus not letting me play the game at all.

I've tried various things but nothing has worked so far. I am running steam in administrator (I am on windows vista) and I have verified the integrity of the game cache files to no avail. The games each ask for their keys, but I am always confronted with "requesting key" message when I try to get a key from steam.

I've contacted steam support, but it's been a week and I haven't heard anything. When I search forums, I see some others with the same problem, but everyone's suggestions are what I have done so far with no success.

Thanks for any advice anyone could give me!

Hi,

I think the folder "92291496" might have been specific to that guy. I didn't have that particular folder, but I had another folder in that location that I think was the equivalent (mine was named with a different number and it contained the localconfig.vdf file). Hope this helps

Did deleting that file help you with getting the install to work or, was it something else giving you a problem? I have been trying to install this game for about a week or, more now to no avail. That file was located somewhere else for me too.

I will just move it to my DT instead of deleting it to see if that worlks. I'd hate to delete it and not have it saved for replacement if that's not the case.

If anyone else has this problem and gets confused, the path is right, but it should be a different number (your number, not this guy's) in your userdata file.

tl;dr Your path should look like this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[random numbers]\config

Hi..I know I'm 2 years late but I just started using steam and I bought a resident evil game..I downloaded it and tried to play it but I got a message saying ' #SteamUI_JoinDialog_KeyRequestFailed_Text ' I asked my friend about it who told me about steam and he said to google it and he would also. We came to the conclusion that steam is only given a certain amount of keys per game and when they run out the game publisher have to give them more. I tried restarting my computer, the game, uninstalling and reinstalling steam and the game and nothing. I've tried contacting cap com(r.e. publisher) and steam and nothing back. I read through this and looked though my computer for these file names and have not found anything. Basically, some help from someone would be more than highly appreciated. I don't wanna throw away $20 and i don't wanna refund the game because I was and still am really excited to play it. I'm not sure if I'll get notified if someone replies to this so if I won't please email me your answer/help renahoran1998@gmail.com I AM SLIGHTLY GOOD WITH COMPUTERS BUT NOT THE HACKING AND FILE STUFF!

The easiest fix: right-click on Doom in your library and click on Properties. Select tab for Local Files. Click on button to Verify Integrity of Files. It should complain that a couple of files are not right and and will fix it.
