Improve Bioshock Infinite performance with these settings
locate "boot drive:\Users\your user name\Documents\my games\BioShock Infinite\XGame\Config"

open XEngine.ini located there

search for "poolsize"

adjust value according to this rule poolsize=Z where Z=600xVRAM in GB
so if your GPU has 3 GB VRAM then poolsize=1800 (600 x 3 GB)


in the same file change the following setting also

UseTextureFileCache=False
BoostPlayerTextures=3.0
TexturePoolSizeReductionMB=1500
LowPCTexturePoolSizeMB=3000

don't forget to add this command in the "launch options" of the game in the Steam library

-ReadTexturePoolFromIni

(exactly as written, with the dash included)

what? visual glitches? this has been tested by thousands of people and by Irrational themselves, if you use correct a poolsize value you get rid of gameplay stuttering, try to understand the settings and don't speak generally, speak for yourself.

Trying a few of these that I haven't before. I had nearly constant stuttering in some places, so I'll report back if it helps. :)

Edit: Stuttering seems nearly identical, but there's definitely noticeably less texture pop-in.

what's your VGA and VRAM ? you shouldn't have stuttering with a correct poolsize value, of course if you set textures to Ultra but your VRAM is under 2 GB then you'll get stuttering.

anyways, open XEngine.ini and try changing every instance of "bInitializeShadersOnDemand" to TRUE

I've done all of that. My system is an i7 920, 12GB DDR3 1600, and a GTX670 2GB.

Also have textures on high rather than ultra, since the difference is only whether they're compressed or not and is almost never noticeable.

I don't experience it in other Unreal 3 engine games, such as Dishonored. Some people seem to get a lot of stuttering that isn't related to the texture streaming, and Irrational is working on a fix.

with 2 GB of VRAM it's a wise decision not to go Ultra on textures, I've seen my 3 GB GPU get 2.6 - 2.7 usage @1600p Ultra textures

Someone linked the twitter of one of the devs the other day on here, said they were knee-deep in efforts to profile and reproduce it. Given that it seems to affect a lot of people, I imagine reproing it will not be all that hard.
