iw3mp.exe has stopped working
Sometimes, i will be in the middle of a match, or when the match ends, the game will close and that error will pop up. I just bought it a few hours ago on steam.

I get it also. Windows 8. Running Steam in compatible mode so figure that might be it.

Simple solution: (I am aware that this is very... VERY strange...) But, try plugging a mic into your Mic-jack.

No idea why this is needed. But when I searched up on it, this fixed it instantly.

Ive plugged a mic in, enabled MIX in sound options, ran it in compatibility mode XP, Vista, and Win7 with administrator.

Still doesnt work. I think if you upgraded directly from Windows 7 to 8 it is why. People on forums say a clean Windows 8 install is best or change to Windows 7 or XP :p

I have a mic in and everything is enable. I changed to windows 7 and it works fine. Must be a windows 8 issue.

The earphone port on the front of the pc solved it for me. The one on the speakers doesnt. Will try the speakers on the front port next. cheers.

I have this problem when the multiplayer is trying to start up. It just crashes and says the same error I would assume as you lot. I don't have any sort of microphone to plug in so I'm not sure what to do. Do regular headphones work, or does it need a mic? Because otherwise I have paid £14.99 for CoD 4 singleplayer.

Go to control panel
Sound
Click on "Recording" tab
Right click in the tab and choose "Show disabled devices"
Turn on "Stereo Mix"
That should fix it, it helped me

Yeah anything that fits should work. That particular fix helped for me when playing COD2 but not COD4.
