Cannot start the game when running in Shader Model 4
I just bought this game, and I cannot get it to even start after changing the video settings to Shader Model 4. When I try to run the game, it simply stays minimized, but I can hear the sound effects and music and stuff like that. Thus, it seems to be running in the background, but it is permanently minimized, and I cannot get it to maximize no matter what I try!

I am running on Windows 7 64-bit, with a GTX 560ti using the latest drivers, I installed the PhysX drivers that came with Cryostasis, which are apparently newer version than Nvidia's official PhysX drivers (PhysX-9.12.0613.exe in the Cryostasis folder).

Please advise!

Thanks,

Stat

One more quick note: After I change the Video settings to Shader Model 4, I try to fix the aforementioned problem by using Steam to verify the integrity of the local game files. Every single time I verify the files, Steam tells me that one of the files is corrupt and needs to be re-downloaded. This results in all my settings being reset.

Something is wrong with the configuration files of the game; the configuration files seem to become corrupt when I switch to Shader Model 4, for some strange reason.

Perhaps this helps:

As i say this is for non steam version but maybe the files are the same... In my Cryostasisfolder I have a config.cfg file

I editted this about 10 lines down it had two entries for @v.sx and @v.sy which were set to 1024 and 768 respectively.

I changed these to match my desktop resoluton, i.e.:

@v.sx = 1920
@v.sy = 1200

Videos and game run perfectly! Hope it helps anyone who has the problem

Hi Asbjoern,
Very useful post - helped me a great deal!
Thanks
It's weird, it runs on shader model 4 fine on my GT330M on my floppy laptop. (Well you know it doesn't run "fine" but it's playable at about 20 fps with everyone on pretty much the lowest settings and res at 1280x720).

Update on this issue: The game seems to start normally when I change the settings to Shader Model 3.0. Thus, I created an autoexec.cfg file in the directory to automatically change the settings to Shader Model 3.0 every time the game starts. Then, I just change back to Shader Model 4.0, and enable PhysX physics while in the game. This seems to get the job done.

Here's the line I use in the autoexec.cfg file I made:

@r.shadermodel = 3

Fyi, I am playing on an HDTV with overscan. Thus, I've adjusted the desktop size in the Nvidia control panel settings to scale the screen image to compensate for my TV's overscan. This screen scaling/resizing might have something to do with why Cryostasis and some other games may not start correctly.
