I'm a big fan of FMV games and really enjoyed Yoomurjak's Ring. One of the big advantages of FMV is the actors can give nuance to the performance that isn't possible yet with CG. So why would you got to the trouble of hiring actors and filming transitions to areas but then reduce the conversations to a sequence of still images?
