ToCS II HD Texture Pack v6.12 (7/08/2023)
Description
This is a texture pack for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel that targets the UI, battle effects, and eye textures to bring it more in line with a modern PC game.

Requirements
The game must be updated to v1.4 or textures will not scale correctly.

How to Install:
Copy the "data" folder to the main installation folder and overwrite the files.
This is usually at: Steam\SteamApps\common\Trails of Cold Steel II\

Latest Changes:
v6.12 - Fix random noise surrounding some quartz icons. - Replace orbment cover icon with a higher quality icon. v6.00 - Add HD maps for Ymir, Celdic, Roer, and Bareahard used on free days. - Updated maps used in Trista (academy and town maps). - New redraw of the side bar used for the battle turn order. - Add several more HD battle effects used during crafts/s-crafts/arts. - Add HD turn order portraits for all playable characters (including Phantasmal Mirrors). - Fix a line that appears near the area selection that shouldn't have been there on maps. - Add missing HD eyes texture for Toval (the ones used on the field). - Replace HD font with one that better matches the original.

Final Notice:
As of v6.00, I am finally considering this texture pack "done". If anyone finds any issues from this point on, I will gladly try to fix them, but it is very doubtful that I will create any more textures. At this point the entire UI and all battle effects are finished.

No you only need to replace the patched exe file once, which is part of the reason I didn't include it with the pack itself. That and it won't be necessary after v1.3. You do need to replace the textures and PKG files however since they contain updated textures from the previous version (the book texture and the updated time quartz icon).

i countered a small bug, not sure it's cause by texture pack or game itself

when Jusis use Art Support on Laura, right side of screen always have a weird red area like this: https://i.imgur.com/FmQjE5b.jpg

I encounter some FPS drops using the pack ever since updating to the latest and v1.2. Previously, I was on v1.1 and using whatever the first pack you released was.

It's odd because I had no problems previously, and what happens is my FPS tends to get cut from target 60 to 30. Furthermore, it's even stranger that somehow alt tabbing out then back in solves the issue. Memory use remains consistent, and it's not tied to -hdfont, -largecache, or the exe file. Simply renaming the textures folder in SK_Res makes it run completely smooth, but of course, with low res textures.

EDIT: Toggled every graphical setting imaginable, but setting shadows from high to medium seems to resolve this.

It's supposed to show the character that supports the caster there, but I've noticed them not showing properly too. Not sure if it's the game itself or the pack too though.

I'll have to test the arts support later, I'm not sure if it's a texture issue or not. It could also be the patch to make certain textures work. Durante had to write special code for them so maybe some bugs slipped through. if any texture is the cause it could maybe be this one since it's the only one I know has a red gradient, and its one that is replaced in PKG files: https://i.imgur.com/UG4RdsW.png

The shadow issue is a strange one. I have used ultra shadows and high distance (basically max settings for everything) through the whole game and never experienced FPS drops.

max setting for shadow is absurd one, i have lowered shadow setting from absurb to ultra though, set to absurb make my gpu always load at 90-100%, especially in town (lake side and ymir)

I think the shadow issue is caused because the textures require additional GPU power, and some combination of that + MSAA or shadows took a bit too much processing power and bumped the target framerate down from 60 to 30, rather than any specific texture. Just a hunch, though. I'll wait for v1.3 and see if all issues are cleanly resolved.

I also had a weird buggy thing with Laura's support art in Mech fights causing red/green areas similar to the one noted above, and it ended up causing a crash.

I'll test out these issues myself within the next 1-3 days, although I'm not sure that if the pack is causing them I'll be able to do much about them myself. I mentioned before that I may not end up working on the combat portraits because of how many there are and the time sink involved, but... I am working on the combat portraits (and have been for awhile now). The pack just wouldn't feel complete without them, so it's where all my free time is currently going. The next update will finish off just about everything that's left.

Yep strange. I have issues with art support as well. When Jusis is using art support strangely no image appears on the right.

v4.35 - Added true HD versions of all the combat portraits. - Added a ton more eye textures and updates by frozenwings. - Added the remaining area text and name text textures. - Added remaining enemy S-Break textures (Duvalie, Blueblanc, McBurn). - Added remaining notebook textures (Bridget and Lotte). - Added upscaled map for Bareahard. - Adjusted the "Fortune Teller" on the Courageous map to line up better. - Added HD auto-save icon. - Background artwork for "Backstory" and "Memories". - Font used when displaying the number of character endings. - Added several other miscellaneous textures.

The bulk of this update is in the combat portraits and eye textures. While the portraits aren't perfect because pixel editing is not one of my greater talents, they are a huge improvement over the originals. A huge thanks goes to frozenwings for finishing up almost all eye textures for every playable character. The rest of everything else finishes off pretty much everything I had laying around waiting to be dumped. There is still one shrine and one boss that has pop-up text that only shows up in NG+, so it may be awhile before I get the hashes for those. There are also still some textures that could use some work, and I'll get around to those in the future.

My next goal is to back port many of the textures I created for this pack to CS1 since they share quite a bit (with only a few differences). I really want to get that pack updated as I've had some work done on it that's been laying around for months. It would be nice to bring CS1 up to speed with the CS2 pack since it's in a pretty good place at the moment. I even have the UI textures that are broken ready to go, but whether or not they will get implemented is up to Durante. I'm pretty sure he's been rather busy lately.

I still have yet to test out the issues with arts support and the mech combat. I was mostly focused on getting this version finished up and out there. I am curious on whether or not the issue is patch related, texture related, or just a bug in the game. I'll try to figure that out soon.

For the eye textures, everyone who was done in CS1 got updated with extra textures added in CS2. That's about 7-9 textures extra for each character. I also did all of the "guest" characters in Act 1 (and I guess Towa, although she isn't technically a guest character in Act 1), and backported those to CS1 as well - characters like Alfin, Elise, Claire, Sharon, Toval, and probably a couple others I'm forgetting. I don't know when Bighead plans on releasing the CS1 update, or if he even will until he hears anything on whether or not Durante will / is able to patch CS1 to work with the broken textures like he did for CS2. I don't know if anyone reading this even cares about CS1 at this point, but the textures exist for anyone interested.

I totally redid some of the characters eyes, as I've slightly improved in overall quality since I first started, and also made the eye positions consistent across all textures for that character. Basically, the "white" part of the eyes should be more consistently the same shape, and the iris/pupil should always be at the same horizontal positions - this makes it look more natural when characters are looking left and right. It's probably not noticeable unless you're really looking for it. There are still a couple characters I'd like to go back and fix at some point, but for now I'm more interested in getting the rest of the guest characters done.

When I redid Rean's eye textures, I also retextured His ogre power / spirit unification glowing red and regular red eye textures, bringing the total number of eye textures for Rean up to 49.

For some reason version 4.35 causes a lot of stutering for me, previous one didnt do that at all. 4.12 works fine, the issue appears during the roattion fo the camera for some reason.

Is it a specific location in-game? I've been playing for about an hour now with no problems at all. All that was really added were more eyes and combat portraits - nothing else should really be any different. A couple misc. textures, maybe Bighead got something in there that could have an overall larger impact that I wasn't ware.

So far I have seen the problem in celdic and highways because i replay the game again, 4.12 in the same spot gives me fluent camera movement O_o
