I Don't Have Dawnguard, But...
I don't have dawnguard installed, but after an update earlier this afternoon I am suddenly getting all the content/quests for Dawnguard. What happened? Should I uninstall/reinstall Skyrim?

If you want :) but if you done that, you dont have dawnguard files anymore.

...I'm the type of person who would rather purchase the DLC legitimately and not take advantage of an apparent glitch. It would only be fair to Bethesda, you know?

I thought this was just me, I have Skyrim Redone installed which needs assets from Dawnguard, so I installed the non dawnguard version...earlier today 600mbs downloads and I suddenly have a dawnguard quest...maybe it's free DLC now? D:

Well to be safe, I deleted the files. If Bethesda is indeed giving the dlc out for free I will recover them at that time, but I really don't want to have those files on my computer if they aren't legit/buggy/etc.

I saw that it is still available for purchase on the game page so I'm not sure but I am glad to have it nonetheless.

free dawnguard for me lol
Read the many post here in the discussions, before making up your minds what you will do with this update fiasco.
I would reccommend waiting until this all gets sorted out before doing anything about purchasing Dawnguard. As this inconvieniece may cause a markdown in price or a sale when it comes to this DLC.

An announcement from "Steam" would sure solve a lot of questions many of us have. Is this the the place they would usually give an official statement regarding a glitch like this?

Agreed that some announcement should clarify what has happened here. I suspect that someone somewhere either at Valve or Bethesda royally Fd up and the Dawnguard files are surely a mistake. I have unticked the option in my loader and have no intention of playing it.I'm only into free content if it's legit. I had no plans to purchase any of the Skyrim DLC anyway so not having it is no loss. Hopefully someone does not take heavy heat for this kind of mistake. I bet the person that screwed this up is already feeling horrible enough, I feel bad for them if that is the case.

But really, Steam or Bethesda should have the kahonies and fess up and help us understand what has happened here. They'll be amazed with the honesty of most people.

I'd say it was likely somebody from steam, since it was added to everybodies DLC menu as well for skyrim.

Depends on how much direct control developers have over their products on Steam, I would think.

I don't think the devs have control over purchases on steam, they just pretty much send out patches (and if the dawnguard mentioned was sent out in a patch, it wouldn't be in the DLC menu) sometimes interact with the community for some games, and get paid. Though I may be wrong.

I would agree that it was probably on steam, hard to say though without any concrete facts. I think it is a reasonable speculation that this was doozy of screw up by someone and not an intentional "we just feel like being generous" gift.

hmmm, since we have no real announcement or facts of what happened here, maybe this was a hack job by someone and an investigation is under way.....the power of speculation.....I am curious now....
