Excellent Specs, Not so excellent FPS
Hello!

I have a high end PC that I thought shouldn't give me any trouble keeping games at over 60FPS+.

Here are my specs before i go any further:

CPU: AMD FX-8350 8-core at 4.5GHz (4555MHz)
GPU: GTX 770 2GB at 1.3GHz (1335MHz)
RAM: 8GB 1333MHz
HDD: 1TB 7200RPM

That's pretty much everything needed to know. If you need any more info, let me know.

Right so the problem is, well, Whiterun and other cities. I have a constant 90-100FPS everywhere apart from cities. I'm not sure why this is happening. I have tried this without mods installed, same problem. Although i do use many mods for my main save i tried a fresh install, same problem.

Can anyone explain this? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for any and all replies!

What resolution are you playing at? And just how far under 60FPS is it falling?

Thanks for the reply. Im running single monitor at 1920x1080 and it drops down to about 30FPS when entering Whiterun, Solitude etc. If i was to move up the path towards dragonsreach for example my FPS would slowly approach 50 but as soon as i turn around to exit it drops even lower to 25FPS (Using DXTORY to check FPS also tried Fraps)

It seems like (In Whiteruns case) whenever i'm looking near the center of the city, the FPS drops.

Dude, please. turn on Vsync or bugs will overrun your game...
and a frsh install doesnt mean any fps-hazardous leftovers are gone... make a clean install.

Sorry if this was unclear but i meant a completely clean install when i said i peformed a fresh install and i always have Vsync on Adaptive anyway.
That's odd at 1080p. I'm playing on a core i3 2130 with a GTX660 at the same resolution with HD packs and 50 some mods and rarely fall under 60fps. I don't have a clue other than maybe a driver issue or a lot of background programs running maybe? Hopefully someone smarter than me can give you some advice. Good luck.

i can hhave like 100 fps, too. but it dropped like you said, too.
turning on fixed vsync "iced" my FPS @ 60. no poblems with FPS drops since then...
Looks like i'll give Skyrim a go without Vsync and also a run with fixed Vsync. I'll let you know how it goes soon, Thanks for the replies!
Turning Vsync Off didn't help, neither did turning it on copmletely. Here is an image of FPS drops at their worst when i look in these specific directions.

Definately something to do with the center of the map, at least everything seems to point towards that area.

Is this how you did it?

I completely deleted everything to do with Skyrim using steam uninstall and also made sure everything "Skyrim" was deleted from my HDD also unsubscribed from my mods (I temporarily favorited all of them so i could install them again after testing the fresh install.

Although it was completely clean, vanilla skyrim. The same problem occurs in cities.

let geforce experrience set your video settings.
google has a link for sure :D
One thing that gasses me endlessly, is people who don't know a damned thing about their systems nor anything about 32/64 bit architectures. You folks really need to do your homework.
Do you honestly think a kick ass computer with 8GB ram / 4 ghz clock speed / a 2GB dedicated video card and a 1 TB hard drive is going to run a 32 bit application any better?
You're sadly misinformed and seriously mistaken.

I am 100% certain turning AA on ( I usually have no anti-aliasing ) is going to make it worse but, what the hell
Do you have an after market cooler of any kind, random performance issues can often be tied to heat problems
