Crashes, crashes, crashes
Alright. Long story short: Have Skyrim for console, it's a good time. So I was like hey, how about we get it for Computer, eh? Yay! MODS! HUZZAH~

So then I buy it, about like an hour ago I'd say. Boot it up. Press new game. Loading screen. Cue dramatic buildup. Looks like there's gonna be amazing aaaand- cue desktop background laughing at me as I cry at the 30 internet dollars I have just spent. I have tried six times, to no avail, following every single step steam support sends me, and nothing. I have wasted so much time just trying to fix these crashes... Ugh. Also my steam support account won't load up my activation email, which is just dandy. Has anyone had these problems and solved them? It would be a great help. If anybody knows how to fix this I BEG YOU, PLEASE help me out :/

Sincerely,
~Squizz

To many mods can make it crash. I had the same problem a month ago. I had to disable all mods and restarted the game.

I didn't have a chance to install a single mod.

Some people have a problem with their sound, try setting it to "16 bit, 44100 Hz" and see if that helps

First, what are your rig specs? Are you sure it can run Skyrim?

If so, have you completely removed everything and tried a fresh install?

It sounds it could be wrong with the datafiles loader. I find that abit ridiculous sometimes. Try fiddle around with that but don't delete any of the files. Just switch load orders. If that doesn't work maybe as others said, check the video/sound settings. Good luck. :)
You could always try googling: ''Skyrim crashes to desktop on load up...fix''

See what you get?

First off when you load the PC Icon:

You will get the following Options:

PLAY
OPTIONS
DATA FILES <----
TECH SUPPORT
EXIT

Click on DATA FILES and look for HIGH REZ 1/3 - 2/3 - 3/3.

UNCHECK AND DELETE THESE.

They are more problematic than not. I cannot tell you how many people found Removing these cured the CTD. (Yes there are a few that it does not bother, but they are a serious minority.) I have a strong feeling this will be the 'cure' and all will work after that.

Also make sure with your MOD collection you have the required DLC's for them.

Some Home Mods require HEARTHFIRE and/or DAWNGAURD and/or DRAGONBORN.

Some other mods require SKSE and/or SKYui

A PC is not a gaming Console. There is basically an understanding you must really get to grips with when using a PC, (I am still in the process of learning my way around mine)

If you blunder ahead clicking, removing replacing, messing with god-knows-what, then many more problems can go wrong with a PC as oppose to a button bashing crash box,
er, I mean X-Box...

other major consoles are available...lol

Master Dan is right - PC's are not "PS3" or "Xbox". They are computers with a whole different set of rules.

As I posted above - 95% of all CTDs right at the beginning of the game (INTRO) and then CTD happen due to the HIGH REZ 1/3 - 2/3 - 3/3. These just need to be UNCHECKED and DELETED before you even think of starting the game. So far my record on this in "Thank you, that did it!!" is 100%.

Did you delete the HIGH REZ 1/3 - 2/3 and 3/3 from the Data Files?
TheMegaKrab Jun 27, 2013 @ 1:14pm
now it runs i had too many mods
Nekomancer Jun 27, 2013 @ 2:01pm
trying getting the unoficial skyrim patches and any work around mods that you find that prevent crashing during charachter creation. i have "had" lots of problems when it comes to starting new charachters. but i eventually found work-around mod's that prevented crashes by getting the game to load /less, prevent crashing during changing the sex of the charachter, ECT.

not all mod's are mod's. some are just work-arounds and unoficial patche's.

also, were do you people think console game's are made? on the PC. therefore, PC's are specifically designed for gaming. im talking about the desktop PC's though. not the pathetic laptop's. those are work computer's. not gaming computer's.

There's a sticky thread with some helpful info--
go to your documents / my games / skyrim ..
delete
skyrim.ini
and
skyrimpref.ini

in your steam folder
SteamApps\common\Skyrim\
delete the TESV.exe

verify game files ..
here's how to do it.. it's very easy..

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

steam will download the missing TESV.exe and any other files that might not be working
start Skyrim from the launcher it will autodetect the settings .

see what happens

don't install any other files or mods untill the game is running-
