Skyrim: Error 16
I've been logging a lot of hours with Skyrim lately. As of today (6-20-13) I began getting "Steam was unable to synchronize your game data..(etc.)" I havn't logged into Steam or played Skyrim from any other machines. If I click through the error, the game checks for mod updates until reaching 3 new mods I had recently subscribed to. It then feeds me the "Unable to download subscribed mods Steam error 16" code for all 3 mods. Playing the game runs fine and my save files are unaffected.

I've already had a look through:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9851-PFHN-9932

It does not appear that my issue is being caused by any of the topics listed there, as my steam connections elsewhere (discussions, the workshop, friend chat) are all working just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Are the mods not working?

Which mods are they?

The only thing I can think of is to unsubscribe to them, run the game, then subscribe again.

I did unsubscribe from the mods, thinking that might be the problem as well.. however I still receive the error concerning being unable to synchronize steam to my Skyrim.

Thank you for your reply

I had the same problem, but it appears updating steam to its beta version has fixed it for me. Hope it helps you too! c:

This fixed my issue, thank you so much! To anyone else having this same problem, I strongly recommend trying this.

I'm glad it helped you out too! Took me like, 3 re-installs and a bunch of mod unsubcriptions to figure it out it was just a steam issue. Ahaha.
Punchline 23 jun, 2013 @ 16:20
Oh bother. It seems the issue has returned. I'm not sure what's causing this. I've tried resetting my modem several times, I'm running the Steam beta client, and I havn't made any changes to the game or computer.
Xiichu 23 jun, 2013 @ 17:40
I keep alternating between the beta update and steam's recent update. It seems to fix the problem, but i'm hoping a legit update fix is made soon cos it's frustrating to have to keep doing this methord to fix it.

There is no need for Steam to synch with your Skyrim if you only play on one machine. Anecdotally I have heard that it actually increases the risk of saves being corrupted. It is better to back-up your saves to another location manually if you want a back-up.

You can change your Steam settings to not synch. It's in the Cloud tab of Steam Settings.

Are you having any trouble with your internet connection? Also, if Steam is synchronising it eats bandwidth like crazy so any other downloads might fail if they are trying to take place at the same time.
Punchline 23 jun, 2013 @ 19:05
Thank you for the replies. I turned off the synching for save files after reading your post, Frog. Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately Is till get the Error 16 whenever it tries to update a subscribed mod or download a new one.

About to try out Xii's suggestion of flipping back and forth.

I just restarted my computer and hey presto..Steam updated upon reboot...
Punchline 25 jun, 2013 @ 16:30
Well... The issue is back yet again, and now flipping between Beta and Live clients isn't fixing it. =(
