Unable to sync with Steam Cloud
So, I haven't played Skyrim since months. I reinstalled it yesterday and when I try to play, I got a message saying that Steam can't sync with Steam Cloud. If I launch the game anyway, I just can start a new game.

When I look on the Property tab of the game, I can see that 36.83 MB are stored on Steam Cloud, so my save is still available I guess.

Sometimes when I launch the game, sync start, stop at 22%, and I get the same message.

Is Steam Cloud as some trouble ?

i think it has to do with non steam mods

I just downloaded the game, so there's no mods installed.
Having same issue here playing from my other computer. It syncs with my main computer but I also have a secondary I play from sometimes, and it won't sync up.

The syncing issue seems to be related to the cloud itself. I am currently unable to upload mods with the creation kit or get a single sync with any games :(. It seems to happen more and more often.

Do you play the game on the same machine and have no plans of every playing on a different machine? Then why worry about whether you can sync to the cloud or not?

I kept having problems repeatedly with the cloud not syncing new save games, while downloading at times old games saves that were deleted/overwritten by playing the game, so I ended up having old saves that made me lose hours and hours of game play.

I turned off the cloud syncing and haven't had a problem with saves since. If I ever wanted to play the game on a different machine (I don't) I would just copy the saves to a USB stick and manually copy things over, or just use my home network.

I am aware local saves are fine, however, one is never too careful about frying a pc, or a faulty hard drive. It happened once to me before, it was like millions of voices cried in terror, and were suddenly silenced... :). And like I said, It also stops me from updating my mods on the workshop, which is an annoyance :)

The problems I experienced with the cloud were severe enough that if I had to reinstall the game I'd find it easier to just start over.

But I do hear your concern, though. :)
Fixing Skyrim launcher error: Error code 51
Written by: JulQri - 12:52 Aug-02-2012

After seeing that quite a few gamers, who has bought The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Steam, suffers of Error code 51 problem, I decided to make a little guide to fix that error and maybe other errors in the process.

1. Verify your game data. This can be done by going to Skyrim in your games, clicking right mouse button on it, selecting Properties - Local Files - Verify Integrity of Game Cache. This will check the game data and download missing files. Restart Steam.

2. Update Video drivers. This helped to me. If you are using the newest driver, roll back to older drivers.

3. Delete SkyrimLauncher.exe and Skyrim.exe. Find your Steam folder in your HDD, then go to steamapps - common - skyrim. Launcher and application are here. Delete both. Then verify your game data. Steam will download them again.

4. Antivirus. This can affect too.

5. Launch it directly from Windows. SkyrimLauncher.exe in skyrim folder.

6. Troubleshoot the Launcher. Use the Windows' troubleshoot on Launcher.

7. Registry problem. Advanced Systemcare may do the trick. (http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html)

8. Reinstall Steam and the game. I dont think this works, but...

9. Delete SkyrimPrefs.ini and Skyrim.ini after succesful start. Both can be found from My Documents - My Games - Skyrim.

Mine worked at point 3. :B1:
very good point at one time i installed a custom launcher and while it was really cool it may have been the source of this problem as

point 1 worked for me
