Slept for 24 hours, woke up blind!
I was playing Skyrim and I decided to give my dragonborn a well deserved rest.
I slept for 24 hours and when I awoke, my character was blind!
I could still talk, walk, and even fight, but I couldn't see.
Using the map, I stumbled out of my house in winterhold hoping a loading screen would fix this. it didn't
I fast traveled to solitude hoping a longer loading screen would fix this, it didn't
I tried killing myself to see if I could fix things, i couldn't (it's surprisingly hard to kill yourself when you're blind in this game!)

does anyone have any tips or tricks? I installed a few mods, but it was hours before I went blind, so it couldn't be that,
I have 50+ hours on this game and i'd hate to have to start over :(

Edit: I have Dawnguard but not hearthfire, if that helps any

Did you try reverting to an earlier save, such as the place where you went before you slept?

Try drawing your weapon and lashing out, eventually you should kill someone and then the guards would attack and kill you if you refuse to surrender.

Did you try reading an elder scroll? Those things will blind you.

I couldn't find a guard to kill, and i did try waiting. i will look for a guard though.
i'll try removing the lighting mod too

I tried killing a guard, they can't damage me when i'm blind, I ended up reverting to an older save. that did the trick

This brought back memories of the boots of blinding speed in Morrowind. /nostalgia

It happened again!
I don't know how to fix it, but I found out what triggers it.
Whenever achurch blessing wears off, my screen blurs for a second (to show it's worn off) and then it fades to black.
I can only think of one possibility of how this happens
1. I had a lighting/blur mod and became blessed, but removed the mod before the blessing wore off

The trigger is your mods.

I am aware, I tried turning off the lighting mods and it still happened. I don't have a save from before I had a blessing either.

What if you switch for a different blessing?
Ganondorf Jan 8, 2013 @ 9:45am
if i change blessings, the game acts as usual. giving me a new blessing and resetting the timer to 8 hours.
It's whenever the blessing wears off that I go blind. Looks like i better get a longer lasting blessings mod

Maybe there is a console command to remove all blessings?

Apparently in console, you click yourself in third person view and type this
dispelallspells

dead.

Okay, sorry.

If you use mods, try this:

1.) Download and install the Nexus Mod Manager ( http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/modmanager )
2.) Let the program search for all games and mods you use.
3.) Disable all mods.
4.) Enable one mod after another and look which one is causing the trouble.
