Eh. At least the Skyrim ones don't run off to aggro hostiles that have appeared on the horizon and haven't noticed you yet like the Fallout: New Vegas ones do (even when you set them to Passive).

If you stick to the ranged followers and refuse to give them melee weapons, at least they won't get in your way as much. They'll still do their damnedest to make sure you don't get any XP for your offensive skills, of course.

Serana she has a nice background story and is one kickass Vampire, Lydia is my Favorite general follower though and my all time fav, and why shouldn't she be we are old friends

actaully I have seven favorites as I can have seven Followers at a time add to that my personal militia from the Become King of Riverhelm Mod and I have a whole army of followers to wage war on the Aldmeri Dominion

By follower, you're referring to the walking wall behind you the whole time? Thank God for the F5 key, because I can't tell you how many times I've Fus Ro Dah'd Lydia off of a cliff. The ♥♥♥♥♥ drowned me once...

I don't use them often but Lydia is always good fun for some classic follower frustration. Serana is probably the most intelligent, though her constant zombie-fest can be annoying.

First was Lydia, but then she died. Had to load a save from past 3 hours and leave her behind, when I realised she was not compatibile with Dragon Priest fights :P
